Setting: USS ANUBIS, Corridor
Heading back to the HATHOR following having enjoyed a
quick breakfast with the members of her staff, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had been thankful that so many
little things had gotten in the way of her answering
the questions about their new COO. Having been happy
to see someone new join the crew had quickly fallen
behind the reality that Admiral Koniki had revealed
next to nothing about Ens. Kea, which made the new
officer to be a mystery.
Hoping that some of her own questions would be
answered in time, the Romulan/Terran hybrid decided to
focus instead on the current members of her crew, and
Lt. Dawson was at the top of her list. "David, can I
have a word with you?"
Walking only a few steps ahead of the HATHOR's CO,
the aCEO and CMO both stopped and looked at the
approaching hybrid before turning to look at one
another. Waiting for the unlikely pair to say
whatever they had wanted to before separating them,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid could not help but admire
and fear for Ens. Summers knowing that should the
massive CEO decide to 'lose it' while she was near,
the CMO would not stand a chance.
Being as supportive and reassuring as she could be,
the CMO reached up and caressed David's face as she
whispered, "I'll be in Sickbay if you need anything."
Meeting the gaze of the Romulan/Terran hybrid as she
left the massive CEO's side, Ens. Summers looked to be
truly concerned for the meeting that was about to take
place. Taking whatever little comfort in the fact
that the HATHOR's CO had not summoned David to a more
secluded location, the CMO could only hope that
everything would be fine the next time she would see
Lt. Dawson.
Moving forward to take the ensign's place next to the
engineer, the Romulan/Terran hybrid flashed a brief
smile at her Academy classmate. "Sweet little woman."
Watching the CMO grow further away with each step
that she took, David tried his best to hold on to the
feelings that the CMO had stirred within him. After
vanishing around a corner freeing David's attention,
the engineer turned to face his CO for the upcoming
mission. "She's not that *little*. What can I do for
you captain?"
Hearing a certain level of hostility in the way he
had used her soon-to-be position onboard the HATHOR,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid met the engineer's eyes with
her own. Setting the record straight about some of
the events that had taken place during the
preparations for his court-martial had seemed like the
right thing to do, but the ANUBIS' XO decided not to.
Taking into account everything that everyone had gone
through as of late, the HATHOR's CO thought it best to
move ahead instead of dwelling in the past. "I just
wanted to thank and congratulate you on your work on
the HATHOR. Lt. Fairborn gave me a detailed report
and from what he said the ship will be ready to leave
ahead of schedule, and he said that you had been
instrumental in making this possible."
Recognizing the CO's speech for what it had been
meant to be, a morale boost and a way to test his
reaction to his posting as *assistant* to the
Oltharian instead of CEO of the HATHOR, David did not
bite. "Elan is a little too liberal with his praises,
I didn't do all that much, the majority of the work
had already been done prior to my getting involved."
Thinking that maybe having exaggerated the
Oltharian's report and confronted the CEO like this in
an attempt to bridge the distance that had developed
between them over the last few days had been an error,
the Romulan/Terran hybrid searched for a way to bring
this meeting to a hasty end.
Noticing the growing discomfort of his fellow Academy
classmate, the CEO jumped in. "Relax, I know what you
two have been doing and I will admit that I am
thankful. It is going to take time for me to get used
to the way people deal with me, and in turn I know
that it will take them, and you, time for everyone
else to adjust to being around me.
Looking at her friend with a glimmer of hope that
this had maybe not been as bad a mistake as she had
first thought, the Romulan/Terran hybrid extended a
hand of friendship towards the CEO and took hold of
his arm, or at least the part that she could wrap her
fingers around. "I think you are already well on you
way to making it easier for everyone, but do keep in
mind that this adjustment may take a little longer for
some. Just be patient, once this mission onboard the
HATHOR is done and over with, things should get back
to normal, if what we do on a normal basis can be even
considered *normal*."
Nodding his agreement thinking of two particular
members of the opposite gender who would like not
change their perception of him regardless of how much
time would pass, the CEO found comfort in seeing that
old and new friendships alike surrounded him making
his task of returning to a productive life as a member
of Starfleet that much easier.
Allowing the CEO to contemplate what she had said to
him, the Romulan/Terran hybrid remained quiet as the
two of them headed for the NEW ALEXANDRIA base and to
the HATHOR, unaware of the simulation that the Sec/Tac
and FCO were in the midst of.
