Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
Lea had returned to the familiarity of her Sickbay after leaving David
with Serenna. The CMO had not liked it but it had not been like she
had any other choice. If Serenna had wanted to speak to David
one-on-one, Lea cold do nothing else but leave them be. All that Lea could hope for was that David knew that she was there for him if he needed someone
afterwards.
"Lea!" Susan yelled, calling out the CMO's name for the third time.
Twice before the Cns had called out the name, and both times had been
completely ignored by the CMO.
"What?" The CMO said startled by the presence of her friend and ship's
Cns.
"That must have been one heck of a daydream," Susan said to her friend,
placing her hands on her shoulders. "You were so out of it that you
didn't even hear me calling you. Twice." Then looking at Lea, Susan saw
something that concerned her. "Is something wrong?"
"Depends," Lea said with a quirky smile, "are you asking as the ANUBIS'
Cns or as a friend."
"Is there a difference?" Susan asked, looking positively serious. The
look in the eyes of the Cns reminded Lea of Serenna. That of course
brought to an immediate end whatever playfulness the CMO might have felt.
"It's David," Lea replied. "Serenna wanted to talk to him so I left
them alone. I'm just hoping that he is all right."
"David will be fine, unless Serenna decides to bend him over her
knees," Susan said trying to lighten the mood. "Seriously though, it will do
him some good to face-off with some of the other members of the crew.
He needs to talk to then and in turn I am sure that he will appreciate
hearing what they have to say to him."
"That is what I'm afraid of," Lea said. "Facing-off and hearing the
opinion of others has never been David's strongest point. He tends to
allow his emotions and usually his anger to take over when things do not
go *his* way."
"I am sure that he will be fine," Susan said thinking back to the last
time she had spoken with David. "Serenna is not only his superior, but
also his friend. He has a long road ahead of him, and will need
friends to help him along. With all of the people who care for him, I am
confident that he will make it."
"I hope so," the CMO said as the sound of an incoming communication
made Lea go to her office.
As the CMO sat down she pressed the controls Lea began to read the
message that had been sent to her. The more she read the more the
expression on Lea's face became overly serious.
"Is everything all right?" Susan asked, the look on Lea's face having
hit rock bottom.
"Fine? Well I guess it all depends on how you define fine," the CMO
replied closing the message she had received. "You know how big the room
they labelled as being Sickbay is on the HATHOR?"
"Yes," the Cns replied, "I have seen the schematics."
"Well they just became a whole lot smaller."
"How so?" Susan asked, wondering what could have happened to make the
room grow smaller.
"The message was from Lt. Cmdr. Argus O’Dell. He was informing me of
the appointment of a new aCMO to the ANUBIS."
"That doesn't sound all that bad," Susan said. "What does that have to
do with the HATHOR's Sickbay?"
"My new assistant has been told to report to the HATHOR's CO. She will
be coming with us on the shakedown cruise."
"Maybe you *should* have stayed at Ops," Susan said through her
laughter. Maybe you can arrange to have her stand in a corner while you move
around."
"Funny," Lea sarcastically replied to her friend. "Let's go to the
HATHOR, I need to see Serenna and try to figure out how I am going to
manage this new assistant."
