"A New Recruit"

Setting: Shuttle Craft, on approach to NEW ALEXANDRIA
Carft Kea, a young fellow officer who had recently been transferred to a new ship, the USS ANUBIS, was sitting in a shuttle craft watching the stars pass by. In the shuttle was Lieutenant Onasie, the man flying the shuttle and keeping it on a steady heading for the NEW ALEXANDRIA base and the USS ANUBIS. "Reading our heading and speed as being 120 mark 7 at warp 7.5."
Carft, who was sitting next to the pilot, nodded his head.
"So you’re the new recruit for the USS ANUBIS? I heard that you where transferred from the USS ADVENTURE," Lt. Onasie said breaking the silence that had been inside the shuttle. "You guys lost a lot of lives on that last mission, hardly anyone made it back in one piece," the man added and for a second he looked away from the controls of the ship and looked at the ensign straight in the eyes before continuing. "You must have lost some of your buddies?"
"Yeah I sure did," Carft answered when he spoke those words you could still see in his eyes the pain of the loss, "I was on one of the security teams on the ADVENTURE with Lieutenant Roger we where on deck 9, a security team of standard 6 people the captain said that this new mission would be a hard one but I thought that we could have handled It, we where supposed to look for the survivors of the cargo vessel USS ATLANTIA".
"But all you found was Borg... it must be hard for you to go on,” said Lt. Onasie.
"Yeah I guess you could say that" Carft answered. Lt. Onasie turned his head away from the controls and asked, "so what happened next"?
"The captain called for a red alert and alerted that there was Borg in the area to the crew. We where the security team and we grabbed the best rifles out of the weapons locker, of course we carried phasers but I don’t think they would do much against the Borg. The Captain ordered to scan the area for the cargo vessel. Scans confirmed that the vessel was destroyed but we detected escape pods so the Captain laid in a course to investigate even if we knew it was just a trap. The captain also sent a message to Starfleet the confirm that they found the USS ATLATIA destroyed and that we were in a Borg controlled area and that we were heading to the vessel to see if there were any survivors in escape pods. When we got there... we found escape pods that where still intact with dead bodies floating in them, they had cybernetic implants so we assumed that they where assimilated.
"The captain yelled for us to get out of there at maximum warp and that it was a trap! One Borg cube suddenly appeared and it sent out a green beam and it was transporting drones to our lower decks. Two of our security teams where assimilated, we tried to fight them off but there where to many. We then tried to save as many people as we could. We went through the Jefferies tubes, at least we found the other security teams on deck 3 and we where able to repel the Borg attack. We had lost our Warp engines so it would be a long journey home. After a day we where out of the Borg area and we where able to send a distress call to Starfleet then a other Starfleet ship escorted us back to Federation space."
"I see... We are almost at the starship just 5 more minutes," said Lt. Onasie.
"Okay" Carft answered a little bit more optimistic.
"There she is, the USS ANUBIS; 29 decks, standard cruising speed of Warp 9.999984, metaphasic Shielding, phasers and pulse canons, 200 photon torpedoes, I think you are going to enjoy staying here ensign," Lt. Onasie said with a smile.
"She is a beauty," Carft answered with a smile.
"I will hail them," the Lieutenant said as he reached for the control panel. "This is Lieutenant Onasie and Ensign Carft Kea to USS ANUBIS," a channel opened and the face of a woman with long red hair looked them in the eyes and smiled.
[/\] Ah, Lieutenant Onasie and you must be Carft Kea. [/\]
Carft nodded his head and sad, "yes Captain."
"Captain we request permission to land," Lt. Onasie
asked immediately after.
[/\] Permission granted, [/\] the captain answered.
The pilot closed the channel. "Okay new heading, next
stop the docking bay."
Carft watched the ship as they flew by it on the
starboard side, "think I am going to enjoy staying and
working on this new ship."
"I am sure you will, engaging docking procedures."
They flew in a large shuttle bay with at least 2
shuttles and a couple of other strange looking ships
displaying the names of SPHINX and BARRACUDA. They
landed and made their way to the nearest turbo lift.
"alright, nice ship," Carft said.
"I will show you to your quarters," Lt. Onasie said.
"Okay on what deck are my quarters?"
"Deck 2, where all of the Senior Officers' quarters
are," Lt. Onasie answered.
They stepped in the turbo lift, Carft had a bag in his
hand with all his stuff in it. They walked through
the decks. On their way they met Ensign Mei who was
on her way back to work.
"Hi I am Ensign Susan Mei, it is nice to meet you,"
and they both shook hands.
"Its nice to meet you to, your probably on duty."
"Yes I have to go."
"See ya at lunch."
"Bye," Susan said.
"What's her job on the ship Carft asked?"
"She is a counsellor , and why do you wish to now that?"
"Just curious."
"Hmmmm," Lt. Onasie answered, "here are your quarters make yourself comfortable. Oh yeah don’t forget to report to the captain when you are done."
"Yes sir," Carft answered.
"Dismissed," and Lieutenant Onasie immediately left the room.
Carft began getting all of his stuff out which
included 5 pictures from his old, under these pictures
where his old academy pals his mom, dad, and sister,
and his old classmates on EARTH. He put up some
posters of nebulas and starships. He began to fill
the drawers in his room with his stuff, uniforms, a
few artefacts from his battles, COM badges from his
pals with there names written on the front of them and
there date of when they where born and when they died.
He also began hanging his academy records on the
wall.
**Pffffff, finally done, better report to the Captain
now,** Carft thought.
He walked through the decks meeting other crew members
including the Doctor and the Pilot.
"Hi I am Carft, I am the new member of the crew on
this ship."
"Good to meet you Carft I am the Chief Medical Officer
on this ship."
"Hey, I am one of the VIPER pilots, it's good to see
you are still in one peace after that battle against
the Borg."
"Thanks, I have to go and report to the Captain."
"Yeah we have to go to but we will see you at lunch I suppose," the doctor said.
"Okay, see you then," Carft answered.
Carft walked in to the turbo lift and said, "Deck one, Bridge."
The turbo lift began moving up, and stopped at Deck One as the computer announced, =/\= Deck One, Bridge. =/\=
He walked on to the bridge and walked through the doors of the waiting room and saw the captain sitting in her chair behind her computer, the captain stood up and said, "Ensign Kea welcome onboard the USS ANUBIS. Admiral Koniki already informed me of your transfer."
"Yes captain," Carft answered a little nervous.
"Would you like to follow me?" The Captain asked.
Carft followed without question, "As you have likely noticed the ship is being repaired following our last mission. This does not mean that we have nothing to do, the senior staff has been asked to give the USS HATHOR its shakedown cruise, and you have been given the responsibility of manning the Operations Station Operation. I hope that this will not be a problem for you?"
The two of them looked at each other for a few seconds before Captain Rikar continued. "Would you like to get to work right away?" she asked.
"Yes captain," Kea replied and smiled.
Following the directions given to him by his Commanding Officer Carft headed for the HATHOR and the Operations station onboard.
