Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
The battle between the USS HATHOR and the three Jem'Hadar cruisers had not been going as well as the Hirogen might have liked it to be. Luckily for Uxtar and Nico though, this had been nothing but a simulation, not that anyone could have guessed so by the way the warriors had been acting.
"That second cruiser is coming around for another pass," the Nausicaan
said holding on to the tactical station as the ship was rocked from
side to side. The modifications made by Nico had been very effective in
replicating the way the ship would react under combat. "Try to keep
the ship steady while I lock on the pulse canons."
"Lock on?" The FCO asked, not daring to take his eyes away from the
main view screen. "I thought you said that the targeting sensors had been
taken out during that last volley?"
"They were," Nico growled back, "that is why I need you to keep the
ship steady. How am I supposed to do a manual lock if you keep rocking the
ship the way you have been?"
"I am all in favor of seeing those blasted cruises blown into subatomic
particles," the Hirogen said sending the HATHOR into a sharp roll to
avoid the incoming fire of the ship the Nausicaan had previously
mentioned. "But if you don't mind, I would like for us to stay in one
piece first."
"Coward!" Nico called out, enjoying teasing his fellow warrior whenever
the chance arose.
"Romulan!" Uxtar said in return, suspecting that the Nausicaan would
find the referring to him as a member of that particular race as
uniquely offensive.
"What about the Romulans?" Lt. Cmdr. Serenna asked while the ANUBIS'
CEO stood right next to her on the bridge.
"Computer, end simulation," the HATHOR's Sec/Tac officer said as he
snapped to attention.
"You guys have been keeping busy," Lt. Dawson said looking around at
the bridge which had literally been turned inside out thanks to their
little combat training.
"We thought it would be wise to test the response time of the ship before we actually went out sir," Uxtar explained, reaching down for one of the chairs that had been knocked down by the shifts in the artificial gravity.
"I will admit that it was an ingenious way of testing the systems," the
CEO said as he walked to the engineering station. "But did you
consider that the modifications you made would translate into an actual shift in the ship's stationary station while docked at the base? That was how
we figured out that something was happening."
Both Uxtar and Nico looked as if they had been ready to say "Oops" but
neither one did, instead choosing to look at each other for a short
glance.
"I appreciate your enthusiasm," Lt. Cmdr. Serenna said as she moved
towards the center of the bridge, "but I would like to have *my* ship
returned to full operating status before we leave in less than two
days.
"Yes, Sir," the two warriors said in almost perfect unison,
understanding that they might have gone a little overboard with their
wanting to test the HATHOR's system while still being inside of NEW
ALEXANDRIA.
The ship's aCEO approached the Nausicaan and whispered, "don't worry,
she's a thought little ship. I doubt that there is any major repairs
to be made, but while I make them, try not to rock the ship too much."
And with that Lt. Dawson stepped off the bridge looking almost glad that
the actions of the FCO and Sec/Tac had given him something to do.
"In the meantime gentlemen," Lt. Cmdr. Serenna said as she took control
of her chair, "we will review the protocols to follow when a ship is
docked at a starbase."
Uxtar and Nico exchanged a quick glance knowing that this had been
their CO's way of pointing out that the two of them had screwed up, big time.
