Setting: USS ANUBIS, 'The Black Hole'
The young woman stepped into the main gathering area of her ship… her
daughter in tow, the child's small hand firmly encased in her adoptive
mother's hand. The sight had not been all that strange or even
unexpected except for one minor detail… Talia had been wearing one of the uniforms that her biological mother had made for her… a uniform that reflected
Enaii's chosen path… that of Intel.
Had the Shillian CSciO not been such a close friend of the family, the
sight of the little girl dressed in the grey colours of Intel might have been
a shock, but Maya took it all in stride and approached the child who gave
off an aura of pride as she wore the uniform she had seen her mother wear
countless times before.
"Well, hello there Ensign Draxx… or is that Lieutenant? Maybe
Commander?" The CSciO playfully inquired as she kneeled in front of the child.
"No! It's me… Ta-ha'lia." The little girl beamed as she looked back at
the woman who had provided the young child with countless gifts all dealing
with science in one form or another.
"I didn't get the chance to thank you for your latest gift… Talia has
been very busy with it." The young woman interjected not having had the
chance to thank the Shillian for all that she had done to help the redheaded
woman keep Talia busy following the death of her biological mother.
"Glad I could help." The Lt. Commander acknowledged as she returned to
her full height and invited the mother and child to take their seats at the
table that had been prepared for the senior staff. Normally Rikar
would have been sitting at the head of such a table, but since the mission
involving the HATHOR had been placed under the control of the ANUBIS'
ExO, the primary seat had been reserved for Lt. Cmdr. Serenna.
As the mother and child duo made their way to their seats, the MCO leaned in closer to the passing CSciO and pulled her aside for a brief moment.
"That is just too weird." Pravat announced in a quiet whispered voice,
making certain that only the HATHOR's ExO had heard his comment.
"What is? That Captain Rikar is here for the meeting with her daughter or that she will not be sitting at the head of the table? I mean, since it is Serenna's mission it would not be appropriate for the Commanding Officer to be anywhere else *but* the head of the table." The CSciO pointed out, not at all having understood the meaning of the comment made by the Enaran Marine.
"Not Sabrina… Talia! I just find it weird that she is wearing a miniature replicat of the uniform her mother wore. I don’t think it's healthy." Pravat stated as he glanced at the little girl who had been helped onto her chair by her adoptive mother.
"A warrior by day and a Cns during off-duty hours… you are truly a man of many talents, maybe I should warn Susan that there is someone after her job." Maya said pointing out in her own way that Pravat's concerns had been unnecessary since Ens. Mei, the ANUBIS' own Cns had already been actively involved in the healing process that the ship's CO and her daughter had been in the midst of.
The Marine glared at the Shillian for a brief moment, initially having
taken what had been said to him as a direct insult but rapidly having come to
understand that no malicious intent had been meant and that Maya had
simply wanted to voice that his observation had been ill placed. As the head
of the ANUBIS' Marine Corps the Enaran had dealt with the lost of people
close to him on many occasions and had found his own way of dealing with
these loses… and it made sense that both Talia and Sabrina would have found
their own way of dealing with their loss.
The young woman had just sat down when the sound of the doors opening drew her attention up to see 2 massive giants walk into the room. The sight of the first filled the redheaded woman with great joy while the presence of the second made both mother and child feel slightly uncomfortable. As a friend of both hers and Enaii's, Rikar knew exactly who to deal with Elan and she welcomed his presence and his counsel, but her previous relationship with David and the events that had transpired afterwards had made dealing with the ANUBIS' CEO somewhat of a difficult and touchy matter.
As the 2 colossal engineers made their way closer to the table, the
young woman chose to ignore than both and instead focus on making sure that
her daughter had been ready for the meeting that she hope would soon start
allowing her and Talia to return to their personal lives. Rikar had
accepted to attend the luncheon for a single reason and as much as that
reason had been a joyous one, the redheaded woman had been looking
forward to returning to her spending time with her daughter, something that she rarely had the time for before now.
