Setting: USS HATHOR, Mess Hall
The HATHOR had been put on automated systems for the time being since
the journey to S-7331 would take several days. The distance had been
meant to test the endurance of the ship's engines, so as long as
everything went well, the crew could relax a little.
Of course relaxing had never been something the two warriors were had
been overly concerned about, so the Nausicaan and Hirogen used their
time as best they could.
"So learned anything from Talia?" Nico teased. "I noticed that she
brought the ship in line with the asteroid faster than you had."
"That's odd; because what I noticed was that her aim was better than
yours. There was nothing left of the asteroid she blew up. As I
recall you completely missed the third target," Uxtar growled in response.
"The only reason I missed was because you decided to send the ship into
a roll," Nico growled back, clenching his fists.
"Well if you had fired when you had been supposed to, the target would
have been destroyed *before* I had to make a course correction," the
FCO angrily said to the Nausicaan sitting across from him at the table.
"You know those asteroids are not just hanging there motionless! They
move and unless we wanted to get bowled over and reduced to space dust,
I had to get out of the way."
"Gentlemen," Ens. Kea, the HATHOR's Ops officer said as he joined the
two warriors at their table. "Who was that little girl?"
Carft had heard about Talia and her mother but the Ops Officer had
hoped that by turning the discussion back on the child instead of what she
had done, the FCO and Sec/Tac would no longer be interested in killing each
other.
"The daughter of the ANUBIS' CO and former ILO," Nico dryly replied,
before he shot one last glare at the Hirogen. Kea's arrival had been
perfectly timed, at least in regards to avoiding the Mess Hall from
turning into a war zone.
"That would explain where she learned it," Carft said as he reached
back to a table behind him and produced three large mugs.
"Learn what? To make a fool of us?" The Nausicaan snapped, still
feeling sore after what had happened on the bridge but looking slightly
happier as he eyed the content of the mugs.
"There is no need to hate her for what she did," Ens. Kea said as he
pushed one of the mugs towards the Nausicaan and the other towards the
Hirogen. "Talia is after all the daughter of an ILO and a CO, she had
to learn something along the way. I don't think that her abilities
reflect negatively on any one. I would even go as far as to say that
her presence on the HATHOR is something that we can all be proud of."
"How do you figure that?" Uxtar asked as he took hold of the mug that
had been pushed to him.
"She is the future of Starfleet," Carft said as he lifted his mug up in
the air. "And it is a future that we all are helping to shape."
Feeling a lot better, the two warriors accepted the Ops. Officer's
reasoning and joined in the gesture of lifting their glasses before
downing the content in several loud gulps.
"I'll be glad when we are back on the ANUBIS," Nico said as he brought
the empty mug crashing down on the small table.
"Why is that?" Carft asked, a little puzzled by the sudden change in
subject.
"Because the drinks there are better," Uxtar replied, bringing his mug
down on the table as hard as his friend had before the entire table
burst out laughing.
