Derek had been following the USS HATHOR for all its traverse of the KARRABY
CLUSTER. His stealth systems seemed to be working perfectly. Although he was
sure that being on her shakedown cruise the crew felt safe enough not to be
looking for a small fightercraft in their vicinity. He was a little surprised when they adjusted course to a heading that would send them across the quadrant to S-3772. But not knowing what their actual orders were, he simply adjusted his course to remain in their weapons blind spot. He also eased off to just over 400,000 yards. This just kept him in the visual blind spot.
This was important because though the “Dragon” was invisible to all types of
sensor scans including targeting, it was not invisible to the naked eye.
This position also kept him well within their defense zone. If this was a
wargame, although he could not get a kill shot, he could do major damage to
a number of their systems.
"Personal Log... I am still following the USS HATHOR and as yet have not
been detected. All of its weapons test having been completed it is obvious
this ship is well able to hold its own in any battle situation. During a
test of their cloaking device it was very difficult to track them. However
thanks to the information provided by Admiral Koneki I was able to hold
station with only minimal deviation... hold recording." Leaning forward
Derek studied his navigation display, it appeared as if the HATHOR was
making a course correction. He slowly adjusted course to hold position. As
the ship settled on its new course he saw they were now headed to S-3771.
Leaning back in the pilots chair he placed his fingertips together in a
steeple and sighed. "Resume recording... The USS HATHOR has just made a
course correction placing it on a heading toward S-3771 this makes more
sense than the previous heading. Having studied the crew roster for the USS
HATHOR I find that I may have once again placed myself in a bad position
with my superiors. It appears that Captain Serenna of the HATHOR is the same
Lieutenant Commander Serenna I am to report to aboard the USS ANUBIS which
is still being repaired at NEW ALEXANDRIA station. In trouble again if I am
caught here.

"Come in Ensign." The flag officer of the base said to the man standing in
the open doorway. Apparently Derek had stopped dead in his tracks upon
seeing the three large egyptian statues behind the Admiral's desk. The
entire base had been given an egyptian flare, but that in no way prepared
the new Ensign for what he had seen in the office of the senior most officer.
"Ensign Derek Stormwind, reporting as ordered!" The new recruit with a
troubled past said snapping to attention after having stepped further into
the office permitting the automated door to close behind him.
"I will get straight to the point... you have a long history of
insubordination... and I do not tolerate that sort of behaviour from *any*
of my officers. That said though, I have brought you here because it is
clear that you have abilities and skills that the regular fleet is unable to
make good use of. That is why you are here."
"Thank you Sir... I will do my best not to disappoint." Derek offered as he
noticed a look in the Admiral's eyes which clearly indicated that he would
be made to regret it should he not make full use of this chance he had been
given.
"You have been assigned to the USS ANUBIS as its FCO... but since the ship
is still being repaired following its last mission and the senior staff have
been assigned to the USS HATHOR for its shakedown cruise, I have a *special*
mission for you... and your ship..."
=====
Secretly following a ship under the command of the ExO of the vessel he had
been assigned to had not been what Derek had expected when the Admiral had
mentioned a special mission, but at least it has given him a chance to show
what his design modifications to the DRAGONSEYES could do. Of course he
hoped that the Admiral would allow him to keep the "Dragon" out of
storage... this time.
Well all he could do was hope for the best.
Logic would dictate discretion being the better part of valor. He had after
all more or less promised his mother that he would conform to Starfleets
expectations of a Command grade officer. He said he would do his best and
yet it galled him to be stiffled inflexible rules that did not allow for his
brand of single ship tactics, be them fighters or larger class. Derek placed
the flight controls on automatic and moved to the open area behind the
pilots chair. Taking a lotus postion he drew into himself as his mother had
taught him, to bring the calming of the "earth" spirits. The benefit of this
was a few moments in this "world" would be almost like a nights rest in the
real world.
