Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
The day had been a long one and Uxtar still tried to grasp all that had
happened. After leaving NEW ALEXANDRIA the HATHOR had been placed
through its paces with the Hirogen at the helm. As much as the hunter
had not cared to admit it at the time, he had been impressed by the
CO's daughter. Although young the girl clearly showed skills beyond her
age, a trait that any member of his race would be supportive of.
The rest of the day had been routine up until the arrival of the Breen
onboard. It was true that they had not been real Breen warriors bent
on capturing a state-of-the-art Federation ship, but no one other than
those involved and the HATHOR's CO knew this. Uxtar had more than once
been ready to make the heads of these intruders become a permanent part
of the bulkheads, but he had held beck until the very last moment.
Uxtar could not shake the image in his head of the MCO's face after the hunter had let loose his anger and frustrations. One, maybe two more blows and Pravat would have been brought to a cargo bay instead of Sickbay so that his remains could be left in peace. Although the Hirogen had felt as bad as could be for what he had done, part of him could not accept full responsibility for the outcome of what had happened. Surprise training exercise or not, the hunter had reacted as he should have, having the best interest of the ship and its crew at heart.
As Uxtar looked down at the flight control station, the Hirogen thought
that maybe that had been the reason why Lt. Cmdr. Serenna had selected
him to take over Nico's job. Taking over the responsibilities of the
Nausicaan would in no way be easy and the Hunter knew this beyond any
doubt. Maybe had his roommate not been so severely injured during the
last part of the exercise Uxtar would not have felt so bad about the
shoes that he had been asked to fill. Taking over a position had been
something that each and every Starfleet officer had to be ready for,
but taking on the responsibility of a friend had been harder than the
hunter could have imagined.

Thanks to the ship's autopilot the HATHOR had been on its way for its next training ground without having the need of someone at the helm. Uxtar had been grateful for this as it gave him the chance to step away from it all and think of what would happen next. Refusing to do as he had been asked had not been an option, and not doing his best had also been something out of the question, so this left the Hirogen hunter with only one avenue.
Uxtar had wanted to check on Nico's condition but knowing the size of
the HATHOR's sickbay and the likelihood of the CMO and aCMO being
overly busy with all of the injuries that had happened, the former FCO decided
instead to return to his quarters. If he was lucky Uxtar would be able
to ignore the empty bed of his roommate and instead focus on taking on
the role of Chief of Security.

Because of the size of the HATHOR each and every member of the senior staff had been obliged to share quarters with another. The only exception of sorts to that rule had been Capt. Rikar who had been sharing her room with her daughter instead of another member of the crew. Given the displayed abilities of the child though, the hunter had not been entirely convinced that this had been such an easy deal.
It had made sense for the CEO and aCEO to have been asked to share quarters together, just as it had been equally sound to have the Nausicaan and Hirogen in the same room. That of course was until Nico had been confined to Sickbay and the HATHOR had taken on a new officer.
"What are you doing in here?" Uxtar asked of half Vulcan Ensign. Coming into his quarters to find it empty would have been hard but expected, so it was no small shock for the Hirogen to see someone standing in the middle of the darkened room.
"Apparently I will be sharing quarters with you," Derek replied
extending a hand of friendship to the baffled hunter. "By the way, we
were never properly introduced. I am Derek Stormwind, new recruit of
the NEW ALEXANDRIA complex and FCO of the HATHOR. That is as soon as
my first shift on the bridge starts that is."
Uxtar took a moment to process what he had just been told. It made
sense since the FCO position had been left empty by his taking over
Nico's place, but that had in no way prepared the Hirogen for this.
Derek had proven himself by coming to their help when everyone saved a
few had thought the ship to have been hijacked by the Breen, so Uxtar
could not find any fault in that. Obviously the half Vulcan was an
experienced pilot so again it was reasonable to have him take over the
FCO spot. All of this though had not made it any easier for the hunter
to accept a new roommate, at least not so abruptly.
"I am Uxtar," the Hirogen said taking the FCO's hand into his own.
"Since you will be taking over my post let me give you a few pointers
about the HATHOR." As the former FCO Uxtar would be able to make sure
that Derek got to know everything he needed on the ship, and as the new
Sec/Tac officer the Hirogen would also be able to learn more about the
unknown Ensign who he would be sharing the room with from now on.
