Setting: USS ANUBIS, Main Engineering
David stood in his domain... now Elan's as the engineering staff of the USS ANUBIS teased the CEO about his new dress.
"I've always told you red would look good on you Boss"
Ken Yates said as the staff laughed.
"Right" David said rolling his eyes as Elan clapped his friend on the back. It almost toppled the HATHOR's CEO/XO.
"I want to congradulate you again on your promotion David. Captain Rikar made the right decision."
That statement made David smirk. Since hearing the news that Enaii wasn't *dead* it still seemed as if Sabrina was distancing herself from him. But that was something he had to worry about later. Right now, he needed to staff the HATHOR's engineering department.
"Since Sabrina said we need to split the staff, I was thinking I'd take Ken, Karen, and Zakdorn."
"Wouldn't taking Lieutenant T'Reni be a wise decision?" Elan asked.
"You'll need her here. She's the best aCEO around."
"I thank you Lieutenant." T'Reni replied with a nod.
"If you think its best, then I accept" Elan said with a smile.
David was about to talk when his commbadge bleeped. =/\=Uxtar to Lieutenant Dawson.=/\=
"Go ahead Ensign" David said.
=/\=At your earliest convience I'd like to discuss with you some tactical objectives about our mission to SURIALL III.=/\=
"I'll join you shortly on the HATHOR. Dawson out," and David sighed, "Work..."
Elan held up a hand. "Say no more" as David turned to leave. Outside of M.E., David needed to make one more stop.

"Come" Sabrina said not taking her eyes off the PADD
she was reading. The doors opened and David entered.
"Captain... do you have a minute?" David asked.
Sabrina looked up and nodded. "Anything for the ExO of the HATHOR"
David winced a little. "Gonna take sometime getting
used to that term."
"Well... you deserve it. Took a little convincing the Admrial, but James back my decision."
David sat and looked at Sabrina. "Level with me Captain. Why me?"
"Why not you David" Sabrina answered the HATHOR CEO/ExO's question with a question, "You and Serenna worked well together during the training on the SPHNIX..." and she looked away.
"And?" David asked. There was something there, he knew it. There was too much history between them for him not to notice.
"And its high time that the faith be restored in you. Maybe I was wrong in trying to be the bane of your career..."
David held up his hand, "You were doing your job. And I forgive you" the CEO/ExO added with a wink and a grin, then he got serious, "what chance do we have in pulling this off? Its been weeks since she died and we left the SURIAL system."
"Is your faith in miracles falling off mister 'I died and came back to life'?" Sabrina asked.
"Its not that Sabrina." and he sighed, "returning to SURIAL III is bringing back... bad memories. I mean... I still feel responsible for what happened."
Sabrina's eyes narrowed as David continued, "Its taken me some time to see that even though I was under Richard's influence, it was still me. Me who defied your order not to leave. And in my... defiance caused Enaii to do what she did..."
"First and foremost Enaii did what she had to do so we could get the rest of the MERCURYs crew off SURIAL III. If the roles were reversed I believe you would've reacted the same way."
David nodded and stood. "Thanks Sammi... for the belief in me."
"I should thank you... for saying what you said. It
takes a lot to admit what you did. And Lieutenant..."
David stopped at the door, "Yes Captain?"
"Do me proud." Sabrina said as she followed David out.
"Aye sir" David said. As he headed for the lift he saw Maya...

"Commander," the former Chief Engineering Officer of
the USS ANUBIS now the Executive Officer of the HATHOR
said in a atypical gentle tone, "at your earliest
convenience it might be a good idea for us to sit and
coordinate our plans to that we can advise our
respective captains of the best course of actions as
we approach and break into Cardassian space."

David nodded to Maya and stepped onto the lift.

After getting supply lists, transfer orders, and fielding questions from the HATHORs staff, David finally made it to the bridge of his new home... for the duration of the mission. Serenna was seated in the COs chair as the HATHOR ExO approached.
"Adjusting to your new job number one?" Serenna asked with a wry grin.
"You're loving this aren't you?" David asked as he handed his captain a PADD.
"Shouldn't I?" Serenna replied, "several weeks ago we were in a fight for your life and career. Now look at you. Not only have you proven yourself in getting your life back together, you're now a executive officer. I must say I'm proud of you."
David shook his head, "And still playing second fiddle to you Captain."
Serrena's eyes narrowed, "Its not to late to find another first officer Lieutenant."
"And miss out on all the fun?" David replied, "I don't think so."
Serenna nodded as she scanned the PADD, "I see you have engineering staffed and ship stores fully stocked. I better keep my eye on you Lieutenant. Are you bucking for my job?"
"Well... technically I already have it," David said with a nod and then shook his head, "I just don't see how you do it."
"Do what?"
"Have everyone come to you for everything. Staffing problems, weapon replacement, transfers..."
"All a part of the job." Serenna replied, "I think you'll do fine."
"I'll do my best not to let you down Captain."
Serenna stood and handed David the PADD, "Then you have the bridge number one. I have some things to retreive from the ANUBIS before we depart."
Serenna stepped through the doors leading off the bridge leaving David alone. The HATHOR's executive officer smiled to himself as he reached for his commbadge, "Dawson to Uxtar."
