Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
Scrutinizing the bridge from her chair the
Romulan/Terran hybrid felt confident that this mission
would be a success, or at least the part about them
reaching SURIAL III. Finding and retrieving the lost
ILO would certainly prove to be more difficult than
anyone could have imagined and after only five hours
into their trip is was easy to see that the confidence
of some had already been shaken.
Looking at her former Academy classmate who was
sitting at the engineering station, the HATHOR's CO
stood from her chair and approached the pensive XO.
Trying her best as to not sound overly serious, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid leaned over the engineer's
shoulder and spoke in a soft voice, "You look like you
are contemplating the mysteries of the universe."
Shaking his head without looking back at the woman
who had just spoken, the HATHOR's XO/CEO simply shook
his head as he replied. "Not the mysteries of the
universe, just the one about Enaii and SURIAL III.
I've been looking over the data we received, which is
not all that much, and I just can't figure out how
they plan to make this happen. Even if Enaii's
transporter pattern is 100% present in the atmosphere
of that planet, it would be so badly dispersed that
there would be no way for us to get a lock on *all* of
them at the same time."
Agreeing with the observation made by her XO, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid dismissed her initial desire to
voice her sentiment knowing that if she displayed a
lack of faith in the outcome of their mission, the
rest of the crew would surely follow. Trying to
accomplish what they had set out to do would require a
great deal of faith in addition to an amazing amount
of skill and luck. "I am sure that Captain Rikar has
some trick up her sleave, plus you have to agree that
our odds are better thanks to Maya being on the case.
Her skills as a scientist are only second to her
ability to speak at warp speed without taking a
breath."
Thinking about the Shillian and her legendary ability
the XO/CEO of the HATHOR had not been able to help
himself and started to laugh, agreeing wholeheartedly
with the description given by the Romulan/Terran
hybrid. Regaining his composure after only a few
second, David turned and looked at the woman standing
next to him, seeing her from an angle that he seldom
experienced due to his height. "I hope that you are
right because I don't think I would be able to
surmount us returning with her."
Nodding the HATHOR's CO patted her Academy classmate
on the shoulder as she smiled trying as hard as she
could to keep his morale up while not setting
unattainable expectations for them and their mission.
Hoping that their venture would prove successful was a
far stretch from embracing a level of confidence that
would lead them to certain failure.
Returning to the central chair, the Romulan/Terran
hybrid was intercepted by the ship's CMO who had just
stormed onto the bridge. Seeing a flustered look on
the face of Doctor Summers, the CO immediately thought
that something had happened. "What's wrong?"
Looking like a bull in a china shop ready to rip any
and everyone to shreds, the CMO approached the
Romulan/Terran hybrid and stood toe-to-toe with the CO
before giving her reply. "I'm about to go nuts!"
Turning the chair that he had been sitting in so as
to face the two women, the XO grinned unable to let
such a golden opportunity pass. "Sorry to say so
Doctor, but I think it might be too late for that."
Not appreciating the engineer's humour, the CMO
turned on her heels and verbally ran into Dawson as
though she had been bitten by some type of maddening
bug. "You can work in your department without risking
bumping into the slightest thing, and if you need a
change of pace you can come here to the bridge. I am
stuck in a *closet* that if I sneeze in take the risk
of injuring myself."
Thinking it best that such an outburst should be
taken off the bridge of the HATHOR, the Romulan/Terran
hybrid moved to take a hold of the CMO but just as she
had been ready to do so the XO shook his head.
Standing from his chair, David took hold of Lea's hand
and politely escorted her off the bridge under the
inquisitive eyes of the rest of the bridge's
personnel.
Having waited for the two officers to have left the
bridge, the FCO made his thoughts known disregarding
his Vulcan half which had beckoned for him to remain
quiet after having witnessed what he had. "This is
going to be a long trip. It will take us about two
days to reach SURIAL III after we cross the border and
that is *if* we don't run into any problems."
Seeing the comment made by Ens. Stormwind as an
invitation for comments, Ens. Kea followed with his
own observation of the situation. 'I am just glad
that we have Ens. Mei onboard, I guess someone back at
NEW ALEXANDRIA saw this coming and thought it best to
have the Counsellor on hand."
Not appreciating the CMO having become the focus of
these negative observations, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
stepped in and put an immediate end to open sharing of
thoughts concerning Lt. Summers. "Gentlemen, need I
remain you that she is your superior and this ship's
CMO. Should either one of you get hurt, it will be
her responsibility to see you come back in one piece,
so I would be more careful in choosing your words."
Nodding in unison their understanding and apology,
the two Ensign quickly returned to their respective
duties plunging the bridge in an eerie silence which
the Hirogen Sec/Tac took upon himself to break.
"Maybe some action will do us all some good."
Looking at Uxtar, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
understood through the last comment made that the last
five hours which had been spent in peaceful bliss had
actually been counter productive. Not having things
to keep the crew occupied other than the normal
routine had lead many members of the crew to think
more than they had wanted to about the obstacles that
lay ahead of them. Moving towards the Hirogen, the
HATHOR's CO decided to give them something to change
this. "Ens. Uxtar, please set-up battle drills for
the crew, maybe this will help us all keep our wits
about us."
Appearing more than happy to comply, the Sec/Tac
officer nodded once before making a ship-wide
announcement warning everything that the HATHOR would
soon go into battle drills. In the meantime, and
while returning to her seat, the Romulan/Terran hybrid
tapped her comm badge, "Bridge to Ens. Mei."
Responding as quickly as she could through the
Hirogen's announcement the ship's Cns sounded a little
taken aback, =/\= Mei here, what can I do for you
Captain? =/\=
Sitting in her chair, the Romulan/Terran hybrid kept
the reason for her call unsaid, instead instructing
the Cns in what she had needed her to accomplish.
"Counsellor, I need you to evaluate the crew's
performance during the drill. Ens. Uxtar will take
care of the physical responses and time, but I would
like for you to move around the ship and observe the
crew and report back to me."
=/\= Understood, I will do my best. Mei out. =/\=
