Setting: USS HATHOR, Bridge
It had been true that the previous five hours or so had maybe been
overly quiet. As a hunter it had proven to be more difficult than
Uxtar had expected to just take care of the routine security checks. As an
FCO Uxtar could always find something to keep himself occupied, but as
the Chief of Security, the scans of the ship and surrounding space had
quickly become boring.
Of course as Nico's replacement, Uxtar had not seen it proper to
complain about the lack of action. What the Hirogen would consider
being a good use of his time and a challenge to his skills would be
looked upon by some members of the crew as being nothing more than a
dangerous headache. So it had been with no little amount of glee that
the Chief of Security had followed the CO's request for battle drills.
After Uxtar had made the ship-wide announcement, the Hirogen contacted
his counterpart on the ANUBIS. The other ship's sensors would certainly pick up on the increased battle readiness of the HATHOR's systems and to avoid any misunderstanding the Chief of Security had thought it wise to inform them of the upcoming drills.
The reply to the text message Uxtar had sent to Prav had seemed almost cold, stating nothing more than that the ANUBIS had received the message and that no actions would be taken. The Hirogen could only guess that the tone of the reply had been in part due to what had happened on the HATHOR during its first outing, where the Marine had led a make-believe assault on the crew. The idea of having his troops dressed as Breen had been brilliant; unfortunately the drill had not gone as planned leaving the Nausicaan severely injured and many with bruised feelings towards the MCO and his men.
Of course Uxtar had not been amongst them, understanding the need for
people to be ready to deal with unexpected situations and that in the
course of such drills there always existed an element of danger. If
there had not been any risks involved, the drills would be meaningless.
This had been part of the reason which had made the Hirogen plan drills
which would involve a certain amount of danger while trying to be as
safe as possible, although any injury would give the CMO something to do.
The crew of the HATHOR had been given a few minutes to get ready while the Chief of Security devised a few basic scenarios. Testing their response time would be the first way to evaluate the crew's readiness, but Uxtar also hoped that the CO would share the Cns' report. Although his position did not lend itself to it, Uxtar had been interested in better understanding the way the crew thought and reacted. This in turn might give the Hirogen a better idea of where the weaknesses of the crew laid.
"Captain," Uxtar said, "I have the first scenario ready and loaded into
the computer. I thought it would be good to start slow and work up the
momentum, so I am focusing only on a single deck for the time being."
Serenna appeared to agree as she nodded her head. "As you see fit
Ensign," the CO said, "these drills are entirely under your control."
"Deactivating artificial gravity on deck 2," the Chief of Security
announced with a hint of evil in his voice. "Shutting down all primary
power to the Mess Hall, Med/Science Lab, Sickbay and Crew Quarters,"
the Hirogen said as he carefully watched on his panel the chaos unfolding
and the response teams rushing to deal with the problems created by the
Sec/Tac officer.
