Setting: USS ANUBIS, Corridor, Deck 2
The guns were silent, at least the real ones. The sound of the pulse
riffles and of their energy bolts still filled Lea's head. That had
been why the CMO had taken so long to dare to open her eyes. When she did
Lea was greeted by grinning Marines and the sight of Uxtar and Pravat
walking away.
Where we they going? Where had the Imperian that had been shooting at
them gone to? Lea's instinct had wanted for her to jump to her feet
and follow the two men. The CMO's survival instinct on the other hand
had deprived her of the usage of her legs.
**What was Serenna thinking when she sent me down here?** Lea asked of
herself, unable to come up with an answer other than the one she had
been given by the HATHOR's CO. **If we are to survive until the ANUBIS
gets here, I need you *in the field* treating the injured,** Serenna's
voice haunted Lea's thoughts. To the CMO 'being in the field' meant
either one of two things; archaeological work or trying to avoid being
captured. So far Lea had proven to be good at neither.
A sudden shower of sparks sent Lea scrambling back down searching for
the protection of her hiding place. The CMO had not cared to know what
had caused this, only that she had wanted to avoid whatever might have
been flying through the air. The sound of laughter which followed
brought the CMO back up.
"Yeah, it's dead," Pravat chuckled. Apparently the Imperian had been downed and the two 'warriors' had decided to make sure. By *kicking* it.
"What is it with men and this macho need to kick the dead guy?" Lea asked infuriated. It was only after she received the questioning looks from the other two men that the CMO realised what she had just done. She had left the safety of her hiding place and stepped into the wide open corridor.
"It was not like we could check for a pulse," Uxtar said in a
completely serious tone of voice.
"Well I hope you two had your fun," Lea said glancing down at the
robot. The simple size of the Imperian had been enough to give the CMO
nightmares for weeks. That is sported a black armour with strange writing
in certain places made the *thing* that much more ominous.
"Actually," Pravat grinned, "I will admit that seeing that thing go
down was quite pleasurable."
Lea immediately thought that the Marine needed to schedule sessions
with Susan. Several in fact, all of theme dealing with his having found
so much pleasure in what he had accomplished. The CMO had just been
ready to make her thoughts known to Pravat and Uxtar when the air was once
again filled with fireworks. Another Imperian had arrived, this one in
the adjacent corridor.
All three responded to the crisis as their training and personal
characters dictated. Pravat and Uxtar quickly ducked and returned fire while
Lea did what came most naturally to her. She dove for cover and hid as
best she could.
With her hands over her head Lea could already picture herself on
Susan's couch, recalling the nightmarish images. Nightmares would likely be
the legacy this little adventure would bestow on the CMO if lived long
enough.
