Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay

The young woman stood by the bedside of her life-mate, her emerald green eyes tainted with tears which occasionally flowed down to caress her cheek and fall unnoticed onto the bed sheet which had been set over the ILO's bare form. As much as she tried to focus on the here and now, Rikar could not help but recall the detailed explanation provided to her by the CSciO about the process and hurdles they had gone through to make this impossibility a reality.

Maybe it had been because Enaii's energy pattern had been scattered all over SURIAL III that the woman had failed to regained consciousness after having been brought back from the shapeless abyss… or maybe it had been because all of the available power had been shunted into the transporter system when the re-materialization sequence showed that there might be a problem. Lt. Maya had thoroughly explained why this had happened and what had been required to counter it, but the young woman could not recall her exact words… in fact she could not remember anything the acting ExO had said and done during most of what had happened.

What the redheaded woman remembered was that she had seen both the Shillian and Oltharian work as if their own lives had been at stake and that once all had been said and done they had received the message that the body of Lt. Cmdr. Enaii had appeared on the transporter platform.

The attention of the ANUBIS' CO was diverted from the sleeping ILO when their daughter rushed into Sickbay and joined her adoptive mother by the bedside. The fear and concern that were reflected on the young woman's face had not found a home on the visage of the young child who appeared as happy as could be to simply have both of her parents back in the same room.

"Nan'ha sleep," Talia whispered to her adoptive mother as the child took hold of Sabrina's hand and pulled her away from the biobed. As far as the daughter of the CO and ILO had been concerned Enaii had returned from wherever she had been and only required some rest before she would be back onto her feet and reclaim the position that had been hers from the start. The young woman could not help but find strength in the confidence of her adoptive daughter who had pushed aside all uncertainties of the situation and focussed on what had been the one and only thing of matter… Enaii had returned.

As the redheaded woman returned onto the command deck she gathered that her arrival had interrupted a conversation which had been taking place between the ANUBIS' Sec/Tac officer and the acting ExO. Since neither one of them had said anything as Rikar made her way to the central chair, the young woman gathered that the discussion had either been of a personal matter or about something that did not relate to the ship's frantic rush to rejoin with the HATHOR.

A whispered voice kept haunting the ANUBIS' CO reminding the captain that the reason for having sent the vessel to seek the HATHOR had not been the right one… given the completion of their mission to retrieve their ILO, protocol dictated that both ships break away from whatever engagement they had been in the midst of in order to return home. Officially the young woman should have ordered both ships back across the Cardassian border and into Federation space but bringing Doctor Summers onboard to take care of Enaii had somehow overridden all other priorities.

Although her personal log would one day show that the decision she had taken had been solely based on Enaii and her well being, the redheaded woman would state in the official ship's log that the ANUBIS' new course and excessive speed had been the result of the CO wanting to render assistance to the HATHOR. Maybe Admiral Koniki would chastise her for not having made the right decision… or maybe he would thank Rikar and the others for having made sure that the Imperians would not soon follow them into Federation space. Either way Sabrina had made her decision and she would live by it without any remorse… especially if it meant that Enaii would be made to open her eyes and rejoin them all in the land of the living.

"How is she?" the Shillian asked as she quietly slid next to the sitting redheaded woman. As the ANUBIS' CSciO Maya had already reviewed the medical report concerning Enaii and had already been made aware of the ILO's physical status, but the report had failed to give any specifics as to the mental state of the woman. The ExO had mentioned on a few occasions the probabilities of the body being an empty shell upon its return do to some unexplainable dissolution between the spiritual and physical energy following the lengthy incorporeal state as the ILO had endured… so it had been out of concern and pure scientific curiosity that Maya had approached and made her inquiry.

"Doctor Halliwell says that she is *all* there… mind and body… she is just not responding to the external world," the young woman explained understanding the question presented by the Shillian probably better than the scientist herself. Based on her own experiences as a Cns, CMO, CSciO *and* ExO Rikar had obtained a unique perspective on many aspects of life on a starship such as the ANUBIS… yet that clarity of thought had still not aided her in making the right decision in regards to their course of action, a fact that the redheaded woman hoped would not be brought up by her First Officer… at least not for the time being.

"I am sure that Doctor Summers will be able to find a solution to this," the Shillian offered not only giving her support in the course of action chosen by their CO but also providing the young woman with a few words of encouragement which the CSciO figured had been well needed.

"The HATHOR is still not responding to our hails… either something is jamming our signal or they are too busy to acknowledge transmission… which ever one it is I doubt that it will mean anything good for," 1st Lt. Pravat, the Marine CO turned Chief of Security for the mission reported, not attempting to hide in any way shape or form the displeasure he felt at the silence they had been met with.

The young woman glanced over her shoulder to the tactical station and the Enaran standing behind it. Although the decision to seek out the HATHOR had been initially prompted by a most selfish reason, the universe had apparently granted the ANUBIS' CO more than enough to justify the decision she had made… all that had remained had been for them to successfully deal with whatever their sister ship had come up against.
