With Lieutenant Commander Enaii safely back onboard the ANUBIS, or at least that had been the hopes that everyone shared, the ship had rushed to catch up with the HATHOR which had unexplainably vanished from their sensors. The disappearance of the ship had only added a whole new set of unanswered questions into the mind of the Shillian scientist who had been pondering several other issues since the return of the Intelligence Liaison Officer.
As the scientist that she was the Shillian woman could not keep her thoughts away from the mystery which surrounded the Intel Operative and her amazing return from a place where truly few had ever been before and told the tale. Unfortunately Lieutenant Commander Enaii had yet to regain consciousness despite the medical information that had been gathered which indicated that the woman should have been aware and awake if not on her feet. The request from the Assistant Chief Medical Officer, Ensign Halliwell, had made Captain Rikar rush the ship to find the HATHOR and Doctor Summers whom they all hoped would be able to shed some light on this unexplainable turn of events.
The Chief Science Officer turned Acting Executive Officer had taken the opportunity to review the findings of Doctor Halliwell and the Shillian had eventually admitted that the continued slumber of the Intelligence Liaison Officer had been baffling. Every piece of data collected on the woman since her return from oblivion pointed to her being in perfect physical and mental form, yet something had been missing, something that apparently their instruments had not been able to detect. Faced with this puzzling mystery the Shillian woman had been left with no real other choice but to support the decision of her Commanding Officer to send the ANUBIS deeper into Cardassian space.
As the Executive Officer, the Shillian scientist had
been faced with an entirely different set of
unanswered questions which dealt with the Imperians
and the disappearance of the HATHOR from their
instruments. Even if the ship capable of cloaking had
used this unique ability to hide from either the
Cardassians or the Imperians, the sensors of the Intel
ship ANUBIS had been calibrated to still pick up the
invisible ship. So far all of their scans, be them
long or short-range had revealed no trace of the
HATHOR or of its crew which by itself had raised even
more questions. If the ship had not been destroyed,
thus leaving some sort of residual debris, and it had
not engaged its cloaking device, what had happened?
Based on their previous observations of the Imperians
it had been highly unlikely that the mechanical race
would have captured the HATHOR having displayed a
clear disinterest in the technology of their victims
instead focussing on the biological elements which
they wanted to eradicate. This left the acting
Executive Officer with another troubling mystery which
so far had not given any signs of being unravelled
despite the continued efforts of the Shillian who had
used the full sensors capabilities of the ANUBIS in an
attempt to locate the HATHOR in whatever shape it
might have been in. Even the attempts to contact the
missing ship through the use of subspace communication
and inverted quantum signals had proven unsuccessful
leading the scientist to wonder if the HATHOR had even
still been in the sector.
When not trying to solve the mysteries currently
weighing on her mind as the Chief Science Officer or
Executive Officer, the Shillian woman found her
thoughts drifting to the Enaran man and the
relationship that had all of a sudden exploded between
them. Although this had nothing to do with their
current mission or situation, the Shillian had found
this personal situation to be as puzzling to her as
any of the rest. Since she had spent the greater
majority of her free time back at the Academy and even
afterwards with her nose buried in one or more
scientific journals, the Shillian woman had developed
a rather embarrassing lack of knowledge in the matters
of personal and even amorous relationships. So far
she had managed to figure out what she had been
required of her, but the sudden announcement made by
Pravat about his feelings for the scientist and her
subsequent kiss had filled the Shillian with even more
questions which she could not find the answers to.
The questions which haunted the Shillian woman
occasionally made her glance in the direction of the
Marine First Lieutenant who had taken over the
Tactical position for this mission. What further
confused the scientist had been the way she felt when
the Enaran would turn to meet her eyes. The Chief
Science Officer had wanted to say something, anything
but each and every time this took place the Shillian
found herself speechless, something which by itself
had been an anomaly that the woman had been at a loss
to explain.
"We are approaching the last known coordinates of the USS HATHOR," the Chief of Security of the ANUBIS said, his voice ever so lightly tainted with a tone of concern in their continued inability to find any trace of the ship they had been so desperately searching for.
"Still not picking up any sign of debris or of a
cloaked ship," the Shillian scientist added finding
that keeping her mind on the moment at hand helped
ease some of her haunting questions if only by setting
them aside for a little while. "What I am picking up
though is a high concentration of anti-electrons which
could possibly explain why our sensors and
communications have not been able to reach the HATHOR.
This could be the way the Imperians use to isolate a
ship to make any attack on it easier. I mean I know
that this is only a theory but given what we know, or
more to the point what we do not know about them, the
presence of anti-electrons in such a high
concentration in this region of space leaves us with
few alternatives to explain both this occurrence and
our inability to locate or contact the USS HATHOR."
"Can we penetrate this interference?" Captain Rikar
asked without delay wanting for them to find the
HATHOR and bring Doctor Summers onboard as quickly as
possible.
"We might be able to dissipate the field," the
Shillian replied while working some of the scientific
details on her station, "but it may take some time and
we really have no idea of just how far this
anti-electron field extends. We might be able to get
limited sensors but without knowing where the HATHOR
is or what it is doing we might end up passing right
next to them without knowing it."
"Then we will just have to do things the old-fashion
way," the Commanding Officer said referring to using
visual queues to locate the ship they had rushed here
to find.
