Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Being emotional had never been one of the
Romulan/Terran hybrid's faults, her training and
extensive studies on the Romulan Intel Agency, the
Tal'Shiar, having long ago taught her that emotions
were more often then not a hindrance in the performing
of one's duties. Looking at the rapidly moving stars
on the view screen though the HATHOR's CO could not
help but feel a growing excitement as the border
between the United Federation of Planets and the
Cardassian Union drew closer.
Being almost within sensor range of the stars of home
had unfortunately not made the Romulan/Terran hybrid
forget about the new race they had encountered and
seen in action. Easily recalling the devastation they
had seen on the Cardassian freighter the HATHOR's CO
could only imagine with horror the full extent of
their strengths and resolve in accomplishing their
ultimate goal. Crossing the imaginary line separating
the Federation and the Cardassian Union would surely
not be a problem for the Imperians meaning that it
would be only a matter of time before they would see
the race once again.
Interrupting the thoughts of the HATHOR's CO, Ens.
Stormwind reported on something that took everyone on
the bridge by surprise. "Captain, we are receiving a
uni-directional encoded transmission from NEW ALEXANDRIA."
Reaching across space and the Cardassian border to
send a message to the two ships had been risky, more
for the hidden base than the HATHOR and ANUBIS as the
source of the transmission could still be traced even
though the message itself would likely remain a
mystery to anyone else. Suspecting that the
communication had something to do with the Imperians
the Romulan/Terran hybrid braced herself as she gave
to signal to the ship's Ops officer to decode and
playback the message.
Seeing the visage of Commodore Simmons appear on the
main view screen confirmed that this had been of some
great importance leading the Romulan/Terran hybrid to
glance over to the Tactical station and the Hirogen
manning it. Understanding the gesture for what it
meant, the Sec/Tac shook his head confirming that
their sensors had not picked up any signs of the
Imperians or anything else of importance in their
vicinity.
Returning her attention to the main view screen, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid listened with worried interest
to the content of the message which had been sent by
the COO of NEW ALEXANDRIA. [/\] We have received and
intercepted several reports from within the Cardassian
Union informing us of the Imperian incursion. Loses
to the Cardassian fleet are extensive but the latest
reports seem to indicate that the Imperians have
retreated back to wherever they had come from without
any apparent reason. Central Command and the Obsidian
Order are currently busy picking up the pieces and
have recalled all of their ships back to primary
positions. Thought you might like to know. End
transmission. [/\]
Looking over his shoulder to the woman sitting in the
central chair, the HATHOR's FCO raised an eyebrow in
the manner normally associated with Vulcans. "Why
relay such a message and risk exposing the base? It
is illogical for someone like Commodore Simmons to
take such risks only to inform us of something that
our own sensors have been able to show."
Stepping away from the Engineering station to join
the Romulan/Terran hybrid in the centre of the bridge,
Lt. Dawson quickly pointed out some of the possible
reasons which had likely played in the Commodore's
final decision. "If the Cardassian and our operatives
within their military reported what we found, our
inability to detect the Imperian ships on sensors,
James might have thought that we were also unable to
know where they were and probably wanted to put our
minds at ease."
Jumping into the conversation, the Hirogen hunter
grinned broadly as he reported on his own findings
concerning the origin of the transmission. "NEW
ALEXANDRIA is safe; it seems that the Commodore
bounced the message off a Cardassian communication
relay station. As far as anyone else is concerned,
the message came from *inside* Cardassian space."
Nodding her head the Romulan/Terran hybrid realized
that she had not seen any identifying background
during the transmission and that the Commodore had
made sure to have only his face showing thus keeping
his rank and political affiliations hidden. "Looks
like our COO can be a little sneaky when the need
arises. That would be why no names were mentioned and
why the image had been set to such a close-up view."
Grinning David leaned in closer to the sitting
Romulan/Terran hybrid and whispered, "That would be
the nature of the beast. Plus I am sure that our
former CO has learned a great deal from Admiral
Koniki. That man is a master at being sneaky."
Returning to his station, the XO/CEO left the CO to
her own thoughts with the now added knowledge that the
rest of their journey back to their base of operation
would be clear of any obstruction and difficulties, at
least in regards to the Imperians and Cardassians.
