Setting: NEW ALEXANDRIA, Section C2, Level 4, Holodeck 11
As far as Lea had been concerned they could have been on the outer hull of the
ANUBIS. David had asked for the CMO to close her eyes as he took her somewhere. The CEO kept reassuring the CMO that all had been fine. Of course Lea having a solid grip on David's arm had helped, at least while it had lasted.
"David!" Lea begged. The CMO had been left alone for only a few seconds but she had not wanted to betray his trust in her. So Lea had kept her eyes closed even though she had wanted to open them and find out where the CEO had taken her. She had tried to rely on what she had heard, but that had not helped one bit. Either David had anticipated this and made sure that there had been plenty of background noise or they had made their way to somewhere busy. Very busy.
"David?" Lea whimpered when her first call failed to be answered. Where had he
gone to? Had he gone ahead and forgotten about her? No, that could not have
been it. "David!" the CMO tried again. Maybe the CEO had not heard her
previous calls even though they had arrived in a totally quiet area.
The CMO waited a few more seconds before honestly considering opening her eyes. Maybe something had happened to him and he needed some sort of medical
assistance. The nanites supporting his heart were marvellous but not beyond
failure or malfunction.
"Hey! No cheating!" the CEO said loudly revealing his position to be only a few feet away from the CMO.
"Well you could answer me when I'm talking to you," Lea huffed.
"Just be a little more patient," David said. "I thought you Doctors were the
patient type."
"We *deal* with patients," the CMO replied dryly. "That doesn't mean that we
*are* patient."
David moaned obviously unimpressed by the play on words made by Lea.
"All right, you can open your eyes," the CEO finally said. As if they had been
spring-loaded Lea's eyes opened and took a few seconds to adjust to the sight.
Green grass with multicoloured flowers covered the ground for as far as the eyes could see. Above their heads stretched an azure blue sky the likes of which could only be seen in dreams. After a few seconds Lea caught a sent of forest carried on a cool mountain breeze.
"Where are we?" Lea gasped as she noticed the plaid blanket behind David with
what appeared to be a picnic basket on it.
"Depends on what you mean," the CEO grinned. "Officially we are in a holodeck
located deep inside a secret asteroid lost in a sea of stars in the middle of
nowhere. If we let our senses believe what we see and smell, we are on a
plateau on some planet that I never heard of before. I found the program in one of the hundreds of databanks they have here. You should see some of the
holodeck recreations they have accessible. Some of them are out of this world. Maybe even out of this *universe*."
"Well I don't care *where* this place is," Lea said as she bounced through the
grass and flowers. "I'm just glad that you found it. Now, are you going to
tell me what's in the picnic basket?"
David could see Lea's interest and appreciation for what he had done. This had
been meant to be a surprise and evidently it had worked. All that he had to do
now was to reveal the second part of his plan and hope that Lea would continue
to be as *accepting* as he had seen her to be.
