Setting: USS ANUBIS, Main Engineering
David leaned against the pool table as Commander Jack
Foley addressed the dual engineering teams of the
ANUBIS and the NEW ALEXANDRIA project.
"I want to commend you all for your hard work during
your mission. Now, back to your duties," as his
attention drifted to David, "and for you Lieutenant,
job well done with you working two departments during
the mission. I know your old man would be proud."
David said nothing but look at the massive warp core
of the ANUBIS.
"David?" Foley said, "is something wrong?"
"Hmmm?" David said, "oh... its nothing sir. Just... a
lot on my mind."
"Well... you need to focus. There's extensive damage
here *and* to the HATHOR."
"I know" David said, "Commander, excuse me. There's
something I need to take care of." and David left the
engineering deck. Once outside in the cooridor he
tapped his badge. "Computer, locate Doctor Summers."

David entered the lounge and looked around and didn't
see the CMO anywhere. The CEO scratched his bald head.
"Maybe there's a glitch in the computer. I could have
sworn it said she was here." David said to himself as
his commbadge bleeped.

David tapped his badge. "Go ahead Uxtar."
=/\=I'm having problems loading a program into
Holodeck 2. Could you meet me and assist?=/\=
"I'm on my way" David said and left.

Lea entered her quarters with Susan in tow. She went
to her bathroom to wash the tear stains off her face.
"So what do you propose to do about this situation?"
Lea looked at Susan. "It really isn't a situation.
Just a misunderstanding... a really *big* one."
"Well... we need to find Uxtar and Derek before they
find David."
Lea huffed. "I'm sure they won't do anything rash."
"A young self assured Vulcan *and* a Hirogen. One who
might interpret David's actions as being rash and
illogical and the other might interpret David's
actions as him falling back onto his old ways..." and
Susan let the last part of her statement linger.
Lea grabbed Susan by the hand while tapping her badge
with the other.
"Computer, locate Lieutenant Dawson."

"And where are Ensigns Uxtar and Stormwind?"
=/\=They are also in Holodeck 2.=/\=
"Come on," Lea said as they rounded the corner to the
turbolift.

David entered the holodeck to a program already running.
"Computer, what program is this?"
=/\=A training program entitled 'The Hunt Begins'.=/\=
"Who's program is this?"
=/\=Ensign Uxtar.=/\=
"Ok... so what's the problem?" David asked
sarcastically as he entered the deck and the doors
closed. As the CEO looked around, the program was set
in a jungle. David heard bird calls and different
animal grunts and growls. As the CEO made his way
through a clearing, two set of eyes followed him.
"So... what do we do now?" Stormwind whispered to his friend.
Uxtar nodded to the tree closest to the massive engineer. "Watch."
David stepped over a downed tree and Uxtar lept from
the tree. A vine surrounded the engineer's ankle and
snapped him into the air.
"What the hell?!" David exclaimed as he swung back and
forth and Uxtar closed on him.
"Well, well, well... look at what my trap has caught.
A *rat*" the Hirogen security officer growled.
"Uxtar... what the hell is this?!" David hissed as
Stormwind jumped out of the tree and approached.
"Uxtar, I do not think this is a wise decision." Derek said.
"The object is *not* to think," Uxtar snarled, "but to
get to the truth... and that truth is what *you* did to
Doctor Summers."
"I didn't do anything to her," David said, "now cut me down."
"I'm not done with you yet," Uxtar said as Lea and
Susan entered the holodeck.
"Uxtar! Let him go!" Lea ordered as the CMO and CNS approached.
"He has hurt you Doctor. And I *don't* take to kindly
to my friends getting hurt."
David's right eye flared. "Uxtar... cut me down. That's an order."
The Hirogen smiled wickedly. "Ah... that warrior
spirit. I sense it in you Lieutenant... like you want
to attack me..."
David flung his arms in Uxtar's direction and missed,
"CUT ME DOWN NOW DAMMIT!"
"Uxtar, release him," Lea demanded, "this was all a
misunderstanding."
"A misunderstanding?" Uxtar repeated.
"Yes," Lea said, "a simple misunderstanding."
"Will someone clue me in?" David said, "and quickly
before I blackout."
Uxtar produced a blade and cut the CEO down. He hit
the ground with a hard thud and Lea rushed to his
side.
"David... are you alright?"
The CEO sat up slowly. "Besides being dizzy I'm fine,"
and he quickly got to his feet and got in Uxtar's
face, "what the hell were you thinking?! First you
call me and say you're having problems and then truss
me up like a trophy kill?!?!"
Lea nodded. "I agree. What's the meaning of this?"
"I only wanted to help," Uxtar said, "we know
Lieutenant Dawson has a tendcy to... react that causes
strife with the crew."
"Strife?!" David asked with an arced eyebrow as he
looked at Susan and Derek.
"I apologize for my friends reaction sir," Stormwind
said, "Doctor Summers came into the Black Hole earlier
and she was... distraught. We tried to console her but
she kept repeating your name and she was crying
uncontrolably..."
"I was not," Lea replied, "I mean yes I was crying but
it wasn't..."
"Listen... a simple misunderstanding that's now solved,"
Susan said trying to cut some of the tension out of
the air between David and Uxtar, "no harm, no foul."
David looked at Lea. "You went crying to them?"
"No... I didn't." Lea said, "they just happened to be
in the Black Hole when I..." and she paused and looked
at the others, "um... can you excuse us please."
Uxtar and Derek never moved until Susan took them both
by the hand. "Come on you two. This is something they
have to work out," and she guided the Sec/Tac and FCO
away.
Lea looked at David. "David, I'm sorry. I mean, I
never meant for any of this to happen."
"Well... you could have fooled me." the CEO replied,
"but what I want to know is why you left so suddenly."
Lea thought about David's question, but couldn't
produce an answer. She didn't want to seem foolish in
his eyes although she jumped the gun so to speak.
"Hello?" David said looking at Lea.
The CMO shook her head. "Its nothing. Look... could
we... start again. Somehow?"
David sighed. "Did you get a chance to check the gel
pack in that box I gave you?"
That gave Lea an inside to change the subject somewhat
as she pulled the box out of her pocket. "What's in
the box?"
"First check the gel pack for me. It has to be perfect
or it won't..." and the CEO paused before he let too
much out, "just check it."
Lea produced a tricorder and scanned it. She looked
into David's eyes. "Everything's fine."
"So... what are you waiting for?" David asked.
Lea handed him the tricorder and opened the box. A
fragrance misted into the air and Lea's eyes welled up
with tears.
"An Altairian rain flower!" Lea exclaimed as the tears
flowed, "how... how did you know?"
"Well... I knew I've smelled the perfume you always
wear before but couldn't remember where it was from. I
talked to a hordulcultrist here on the base and they
knew it instantly. So I kinda tweaked it so that
everytime you open this box you get a little reminder
of home."
She looked down and there was a holo image of the rain
flower. "But why?" she asked.
"You've always been there to remind me of how
important it is to hold on to family... the family we
have here. With Jordan's death... and mine... it made me
look at things differently," the CEO said producing the
necklace he took from Gul Zulot on SURIAL III.
"I want you to have this," David said slipping it
around her neck.
Lea tried to step away. "Oh no. David, I can't. That
belonged to Jordan and..."
David pulled Lea closer to him and placed it around
her neck. "It was a reminder of brotherhood... that I
would always be there for him. I just want you to know
that no matter what, I'll always be there for you as well."
Lea held the charm in her hand. She spun it and as it
turned repeatedly it displayed the initals 'D.D.' and
'J.D.'
"I... I don't know what to say." Lea said as she looked
up at the CEO and his head approached hers and he
kissed her. Lea felt her body melting into his as her
arms wrapped around the engineer's neck. Her lips felt
as if liquid plasma was dropped onto them as David's
badge bleeped.

As their lips parted, Lea's eyes remained closed as
she still felt the heat from the kiss.
"Dinner later?" David said as the CMO finally came
around.
"Oh yes," she said as the massive CEO turned to leave.
