Most people would have done everything in their power
to be as far away from this place as possible since
the ship and its crew had been officially placed on
*off-duty* status. The moment all of the reports,
logs and meetings with the Admiralty had been
completed the Shillian scientist had wasted absolutely
no time to return to the ANUBIS and to one of the labs
in which she truly felt at home.
The experienced the Chief Science Officer had gained while she had doubled as Executive Officer had been invaluable but in all honesty the Shillian woman far preferred dealing with dangerous special anomalies or unpredictable quantum sinkholes instead of having to make command-level decisions. It had been easy to see that Captain Rikar had been a natural in her role as Commanding Officer, having grown into the part with apparent ease. The same could not be said in regards to the scientist who had been given the responsibilities of being her second in command, the Shillian having displayed on countless occasions that her primary line of thought had remained along the field where she had felt most comfortable with.
With the burden of command off her shoulders, a weight that she had been most happy to hand back over to Lieutenant Commander Serenna, the Shillian woman had been able to free her mind and partake in more relaxing activities. As she sat at the main work station of the Quantum Physics Lab, the eyes of the Chief Science Officer carefully scrutinized the results of the work she had requested from the computer, the main screen having been divided into four in order to accommodate all of the demands made by the Shillian.
In the upper left corner the computer had begun to
display the analysis of all the sensor data that had
been collected while the USS ANUBIS and USS HATHOR had
been inside Cardassian space. The Shillian scientist
had been most interested in the data pertaining to the
Imperians, at least what little they had been able to
obtain. Their level of technology had clearly been
superior to that of the Cardassians and of the
Federation which made the Chief Science Officer dwell
as deep as she could into the matter with the hopes of
finding something that they might have not realised
while they had been doing their best to stay one step
ahead of the mechanical race while at the same time
attempting the rescue of the Intelligence Liaison Officer.
In the upper right corner of the same large screen the computer had provided a list of all newly discovered spatial anomaly in the quadrant as per the request of the Chief Science Officer. Although there had been no possible way for the Shillian to personally investigate each and every new phenomenon, the scientist had made a point long ago to keep abreast of all new discoveries if only to be able to provide some general information to her superior officers should the need arise.
In the lower left corner of the screen Maya had
requested from the computer a complete list of all
medical phenomenons which matched the general
description of the Intelligence Operative of the USS
ANUBIS. The Shillian had in no way expected to find a
cure for the condition currently afflicting Enaii but
she had hoped to find maybe something that might prove
useful to Doctor Summers and Doctor Hogg, two of the
many medical officers working on trying to solve this
puzzling dilemma.
Lastly, in the lower right corner of the large screen
the Shillian scientist had requested the most current
scientific journal updates so that she could remain
aware of whatever new breakthroughs had been made in
the field of science. As the Chief Science Officer of
the USS ANUBIS it had been one of her most important
responsibilities to be able to provide the Captain and
First Officer with the most up-to-date and
scientifically accurate information available.
As she looked at the four sections of the screen the
Shillian scientist took a moment to reflect on what
she had been doing and how this had made her feel.
The Chief Science Officer had felt the warmth of pride
and satisfaction grow within her making it as clear as
could be that this was where she belonged. With this
thought firmly entrenched in her mind the scientist
reviewed some of the events that had transpired during
her tour of duty as First Officer. Immediately Maya
thought of the Enaran Marine who had taken on the role
of Chief of Security for their last mission, a role
that he had performed to the best of his abilities and
which had permitted him to be right there besides the
Shillian, an arrangement which had apparently pleased
them both.
As she had returned to the comfort of her domain the
Shililan woman could easily imagine that the Enaran
Marine had done the same and had shed the restraints
of his role as head of Security to enjoy the more
hands-on and physically demanding task of training and
leading the Marines assigned to the ANUBIS. As much
as the Chief Science Officer might have loathed the
idea of Pravat enjoying the more brutal nature of his
position, the Shillian had gained a new appreciation
in someone being able to do what they enjoyed most.
As she did her best not to picture Pravat in a
situation in which he might get hurt, even if only for
training purposes, the Shillian returned to her
scrutinizing of the four-way split screen and the
information being displayed on it, finding the entire
exercise as relaxing as could be.
