Setting: NEW ALEXANDRIA, Administrative Level, ANUBIS' CO's Office
Sitting in front of CPT. Rikar the Romulan/Terran
hybrid felt as if everything had returned to normal
even though the setting for their meeting had not been
the ANUBIS' Ready Room. Wanting to stay on NEW
ALEXANDRIA and close to her wife, the ship's CO had
requested that their meeting be held here, a request
that the XO had been more than happy to accommodate if
only to see the office that Rikar so seldom used.
Scanning through the PADD that she had brought with
her for the purposes of their meeting, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid reported on the state of the
ship and its crew. "It will take at least another two
weeks for all of the ANUBIS' systems to be restored to
full working condition. It may take a little longer
if David manages any more *misunderstandings*."
Chuckling briefly, the ANUBIS' CO tried to picture in
her mind the scene in the holodeck which had been
reported to her not too long ago. Taking a few
moments to carefully weigh all of the evidence that
had been brought to her attention the CO turned to her
XO to see if any disciplinary measures had been
warranted. "Tell me, what do you think we should do
with Uxtar and Derek?"
Appearing almost relieved that the CO had asked for
an opinion instead of just rendering a verdict, the
Romulan/Terran hybrid was quick to jump in and take on
the role of advocate for the two Ensigns, a role that
she had apparently taken a liking to since the CEO's
court-martial. "The initial fault was harmless and
was turned into a full issue only because Doctor
Summers was a little more emotional than she should
have been. I think that our dealing with the
Imperians in addition to the stress we were all under
when we headed for SURIAL III should grant the crew
some lenience. Although Derek followed Uxtar, it was
the Hirogen who instigated the holodeck scheme and
that only based on his wanting to defend the honour of
our CMO."
Nodding her head in apparent agreement to the
explanation provided by the Romulan/Terran hybrid, the
CO leaned back into her chair before continuing. "I
guess we can account all of this to *winding down*
from our last mission, but I would still like for
Uxtar to be spoken to. Giving David, who is a
superior officer, a new perspective on life by hanging
him from his ankle was not exactly a method that our
CNS or myself would have endorsed."
Agreeing without delay to the course of action
suggested by the CO, the XO made a note on her PADD to
seek out and speak to Uxtar before she moved on to
another subject. "May I ask how Enaii is doing?"
Sighing heavily the CO replied without words to the
question that had been asked by the Romulan/Terran
hybrid indicating by the sadness that had reflected in
Rikar's eyes that no progress had been made in
returning the ILO to a more *awake* state of being.
Wanting to not dwell on this painful subject CPT Rikar
quickly changed the subject, "Tell me about the new
additions to our crew."
Calling up the most up-to-date information on her
PADD, the XO gave a detailed report on the whereabouts
and activities of the newest officers to have been
assigned to the USS ANUBIS. "Ens. Hogg seems to be
adjusting very well to life away from the Cardassians
and she seems to have taken a liking to our Robotics
Expert."
Smiling for the first time the CO nodded her head.
"What is there not to like about Elan? The only thing
that particular Oltharian is missing is a very thick
coat of fur so that he could officially be declared to
be an overgrown teddy bear."
Stopping suddenly, the smile on Rikar's face vanished
in a heartbeat as she remembered the specifics of the
Oltharian's situation which had strangely enough
matched her own now. Thinking on how the imposing
engineer had dealt with his own sorrow, the CO found
strength in Elan's resolve and vowed to be a little
more like him in keeping hopes of a recovery close to
her heart. Wanting to continue with the staff report,
the CO moved her questions onto their aCEO. "Want
about David's new assistant?"
Searching her PADD for the information, the XO
replied to the query. "Ens. Mattais Norheim, actually
I do not have all that much information on his
progress at the moment. He was assigned quarters
onboard the ANUBIS and I asked Lt. Fairborn to take
charge of him for the time being. I figured that with
our CEO's hands full with the repairs to the ship the
last thing he needed was to have to break in a new
assistant. Plus Elan had requested some additional
help to work with the Imperian and since Ens. Norheim
has never had to deal with them, I thought it would be
a good learning experience for him."
Appearing a little uncertain the CO leaned forward on
her desk cutting the distance between her and the XO
by more than half. "Looks like Elan is going to have
his hands full. I just hope that having to work on
one of those killing machines is not going to scare
our newest engineer out the nearest airlock."
Making another note on her PADD the Romulan/Terran
hybrid reassured the CO that all would be fine. "I
have the utmost confidence in Lt. Fairborn's skills as
both an engineer and a mentor, but I will make a point
of dropping in on him just to make sure that
everything is going well. That might also give me the
chance to see how Ens. Hogg is doing since I suspect
that she will not be too far away from our only
resident Oltharian."
