Setting: USS ANUBIS, Bridge
Leaving NEW ALEXANDRIA had been a bitter-sweet
moment; one that the Romulan/Terran hybrid had mixed
feelings about, at least as far as the XO for the
ANUBIS could have feelings for anything. Thinking of
the unique situation of their FCO in that his emotions
were always on the verge of taking over his more
logical side, Serenna found a new appreciation for
calmness of her split heritage. Fighting against a
natural coldness which sprung from her Romulan side
had been the extent of the hybrid's internal emotional
conflicts, the rest being nothing more than her Human
side despising what the Romulan half represented.
Approaching the CO who had returned to her seat at
the centre of the bridge the Romulan/Terran hybrid
glanced back to the science station and the Shillian
working there. Speaking to the captain in a whispered
voice the XO made sure that neither the FCO of CSciO
could overhear what she had meant to say. "Are you
sure this is such a good idea?"
Following the eyes of her XO back towards the rear of
the bridge the CO quickly picked up on what the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had meant by her comment.
Matching the whispered tone of her First Officer Rikar
offered her reply. "She did survive her tour of duty
as this ship's XO during your absence, plus I think
that they might be able to learn from each other."
Not looking in any convinced by the reply of her CO
the Romulan/Terran hybrid turned to look at the front
of the bridge and the half Vulcan FCO who had also
returned to his station. "Ens. Stormwind is an able
officer and a gifted pilot but he does have the
tendency to ignore protocol and follow his *emotions*.
Such behaviour is best countered by a firm
supervision and command."
Leaning in closer to the XO Captain Rikar grinned as
she addressed the latest concerns presented by the
Romulan/Terran hybrid. "The same could have been
easily said for both you and me, and in this case
maybe having to deal with something *different* will
be beneficial to the both of them. Also I do have al
ulterior motive for having assigned Lt. Cmdr. Maya to
be with Ens. Stormwind; one which plays in adding a
certain amount of credibility to our cover story."
Appearing somewhat shocked the Romulan/Terran hybrid
stared at the CO with puzzlement but eventually
decided to not press the matter, at least not at that
moment having decided that a more private setting
might be more suitable for the explanation that would
be required.
Considering the issue closed for the time being the
Romulan/Terran hybrid returned to her post making a
point to stop by the Tactical station to speak to the
Hirogen Sec/Tac who had resumed his seemingly endless
attempts to identify any and all threats that the
ANUBIS and its crew might encounter during the course
of their mission. "Tracking potential preys?"
Looking up from his instruments for only an instant
the Sec/Tac realized as he met the XO's eyes that the
Romulan/Terran hybrid had actually been serious in her
question which modified the reply that had formed in
his mind when he had first heard the question. "Not
unless we are hunting for Class-2 freighters. The
reports on IRRAJ's trading business did not do the
traffic in this sector justice. There are more ships
coming and going from that planet than I had
originally anticipated but this increased traffic
should actually make our arrival less suspicious."
Having overheard the conversation between the two
officers the CO turned her chair around to face the
Hirogen and Romulan/Terran hybrid as she added her
two-cent worth. "We'll be just another fish in the
pond."
Grinning in a way that would have made most people
who did not know the Hirogen fear for their lives,
Uxtar glanced back down at his instruments before
commenting further. "More like a shark in the midst
of goldfishes. I doubt that we would have to even
call upon our ablative armour to protect us from the
combined weapons' fire of these freighters."
Tapping the Hirogen on the shoulder as she continued
on towards her own station the Romulan/Terran hybrid
made herself sound more serious then ever as she
pointed out one crucial fact about their mission. "I
would guess that you have been spending too much time
with our resident Marine CO, you are starting to sound
like him. Remember that we are guests of the King of
IRRAJ and that our *hunt* will be limited to Intel
gathering once we arrive in orbit."
Nodding his understanding the Sec/Tac officer
followed the Romulan/Terran hybrid with his eyes and
waited for her to arrive at her station before adding,
"But there is no need for us to not be prepared for
battle. As a well known military commander once said
'it is prudent to plan for war especially when
speaking peace."
Laughing out loud for a few seconds the Cns slid next
to the much larger Hirogen and gently nudged his arm
making her presence known to the Sec/Tac officer. "I
am just happy that you are not part of the
Federation's diplomatic corps."
Choosing not to comment on what Ens. Mei had said the
Hirogen resumed his work at the Tactical station as
did everyone else on the bridge of the ANUBIS, each
member of the staff wanting to take full advantage of
the time they had before arriving to IRRAJ.
