The young woman sat at the end of the long table her eyes having
carefully scrutinized the members of the senior staff who had reported in as per the redhead's request. The various expressions on the faces of those
present reflected the greatly varied emotions the crew held for their latest
undercover mission… one that held the potential of being nothing
noteworthy while at the same time possessing the possibility of uncovering
something that could prove to be less than desirable.
"Alright… let's start with a ship-wide status report," the CO started
with as she glanced over to the CEO who immediately understood that the ball
had been sent into his court.
"All ship systems are working better than ever… all of the upgrades
that were brought onboard were exactly what the ANUBIS needed. Now I would
not hesitate to have this ship in the middle of an intergalactic conflict
with the fate of the universe hanging in the balance," Dawson stated with a
hint of humour which of course prompted an immediate reply from the ANUBIS'
ExO.
"That will be for our *next* mission… let's concentrate on IRRAJ for
this one shall we?" Serenna offered as only the half Romulan woman could,
her tone of voice as serious as could be despite the reality that she had
been half kidding, or at least that had been what the redheaded woman had
hoped. Be it for their next mission or any other to follow Rikar had not at
all liked the idea of having the ANUBIS and its crew in the middle of an
intergalactic war.
"So I guess this means that all of the systems in Sickbay are working
as they should?" the young woman continued with as she shifted her gaze
onto the CMO as a gentle grin appeared on the woman's pink lips.
"Yes… thanks to Ens. Norheim all of the systems in Sickbay are working
as they should… now all that is left to do is to not use them during this
mission," Doctor Summers shot back letting everyone know that she had
hoped for their current mission to be nothing more than a *simple*
reconnaissance exercise.
"Long-range sensors and reports from ships which have been in the
sector point towards an uneventful arrival to IRRAJ," the Hirogen Sec/Tac
officer informed in a way which almost bordered on disappointment.
"The real issue will be once we have arrived in orbit… if there are any
Romulans, Cardassian or Dominion spies amongst the general population
or in the King's court I doubt that our arrival to the planet surface will
remain uneventful," the Enaran Marine added obviously having already planned
for several possibilities.
"We will just have to wait and see… but this does lead in to one of the
points I had wanted to cover. Ens. Stormwind has proposed to take the
DRAGONSEYE ahead and infiltrate the trading sector with the hopes of
discovering if indeed IRRAJ had been touched by any of our
adversaries," the redheaded CO offered as she glanced over to the ANUBIS' FCO before she turned her attention onto her second in command.
"The more we split up the more inviting each member of this crew will
be should the Romulans, Cardassian or Dominion be on IRRAJ… it may be too
risky for a simple *Ensign* to attempt this without the full support of the
ANUBIS has backup," the half Human, half Romulan woman explained obviously
having given the whole matter a great deal of thought prior to their meeting.
The expression which appeared on the features of the ship's CO clearly
indicated that the young woman had been in complete agreement with what
her ExO had stated and it seemed for a moment that the idea which Derek had
proposed would be dimissed without anything more being said.
"I do agree… at least with the part that a single officer alone may
present too inviting of a target for any agent already planet side. Therefore
I volunteer to accompany Ens. Stormwind on this advance scout mission,"
Ens. Mei, the ANUBIS' Cns offered in a way which actually took everyone else
by general surprise.
"Plus I could insure that all of the DRAGONSEYE's systems are linked to
the ANUBIS thus relaying any and all data collected instantly. Direct
communication would not be possible so as to keep our undercover
identify secret but with two people there we would double our odds of finding
out something useful," the half Vulcan FCO announced obviously more than
supporting the idea of the ship's Cns tagging along for the advance
scout mission. Thanks to the intervention of Susan the plan that he had
concocted had managed to survive for another round of debate… although this had in no way insured that either the CO or ExO would go along with the revised plan.
"Intel experience and a general lack of knowledge about the social
hierarchy of IRRAJ means that such a plan would require the presence of an
experience officer… one that is able to deal with both the unexpected and the
population with a solid base of knowledge. I do not mean to say that
Ens. Stormwind or Ens. Mei are incapable of tackling whatever may come up,
but for their own safety and the increased probabilities of success for our
mission I would suggest that another officer accompany our FCO for this
recon mission," the CSciO blurred out in a single breath which plunged
the Conference Lounge into complete silence for a few seconds afterwards.
The young woman glanced over to the ILO's chair and thought that Enaii
would have been the best person for the job… unfortunately the blonde-haired
woman had not reported for the briefing which only further indicated to the
ANUBIS' CO that whatever her reasons had been Enaii had not been quite
herself yet. With the absence of the ILO so clearly visible to all
Rikar had no other option but to delegate to another officer the task
suggested by the Shillian.
"Sounds like a plan… Lt. Cmdr. Maya… given your experience as a command
level officer and that you are most probably the resident expert on
IRRAJ, you will accompany Ens. Stormwind on the DRAGONSEYE," Rikar said
obviously meaning her words to be more of an order than a suggestion.
"Before we officially sign off on this plan… I think it would be wise
for us to insure that we have adequate replacement at the helm of the ANUBIS,"
Serenna announced as she turned to face the woman who sat at the end of
the table. The CO immediately understood what her First Officer had meant
and shifted her attention onto the ship's CEO once again.
"Any news on Elan's progress in regards to his repairs on Annie?" the
young woman inquired knowing that the Oltharian had more than likely still
been working on the ship's Avatar since no one had seen either of them.
"Last I know Elan was still working on restoring her primary systems,"
the CEO replied with a hint of sadness which showed to everyone that David
suspected that the task might have been more than the gentle giant
might have been able to handle. Effecting the repairs on the Avatar would
have been as easy as could be had it not been for the Oltharian's wish to
protect the android's *soul* at all costs.
"With your permission I will head down to the Robotics Lab and offer my
assistance to Lt. Fairborn," Ens. Norheim jumped in with. Back on NEW
ALEXANDRIA the new Ensign had seen the giant at work and had thought
that maybe he would be able to help… at worst case Mattias might be able to
offer some well needed support and encouragement to the Robotics Expert who
had poured all of his efforts into bringing the Avatar back as she had been.
"Perfect… then everything is settled… we should be arriving at IRRAJ in
three days. We will reconvene in two days and re-evaluate the
situation then and see if additional modifications need to be made to our arrival plans. Until then rest… this mission could prove to be more
challenging than we might want it to be. Dismiss."
