"A Royal Pain"

Setting: IRRAJ, Royal Palace, King's Chambers
After procuring the proper paperwork and quickly
submitting them, the away team from the USS ANUBIS
found themselves in the royal chamber.
"Impressive" David said as he glanced around and
pulled a tricorder from his jacket pocket scanning the
room. Uxtar glanced over the CEOs shoulder.
"Nothing in the way of danger here" David said closing
the tricorder.
"With what it took us to get *this* far I believe
danger to be a mute point." Captain Rikar said to her
CEO as 4 robed men entered the room and stood 3 meters
apart in front of a door. The First Minister stepped
forward.
"I present his royal highness TKel Holoj and her
highness Adeja."
The four robed men and the First Minister took a knee
as the door opened. The CO of the ANUBIS followed suit
along with the rest of the away team. Uxtar's face
twisted into a scowl as David took the Sec/Tac officer
by the arm.
"Uxtar, what are you doing?" David asked.
"I bow to *no* one." the Hirogen hissed.
With a glare from the ExO the Sec/Tac officer took a
knee as the King and the Princess entered and took
their seats. Mattias' mouth hung open as he stared at
the Princess. David nudged his assistant who blinked
and closed his mouth.
"First Minister" the King said, "who are
these... people?"
The First Minister nodded to Sabrina who stood and
approached the dais.
"Your Highness, I am Captain Sabrina Rikar
representing the United Federations of Planets."
"And those behind you. Do they serve you Captain?" the
King asked.
Sabrina smiled. "No your Highness. These are my
officers."
"Then you may procede with the introductions."
"My executive officer Lieutenant Commander Serenna, my
chief engineer Lieutenant David Dawson, my chief
medical officer Lieutenant Lea Summers, our counselor
Ensign Susan Mei, my chief of security Ensign Uxtar,
and our assistant chief engineer Ensign Mattias
Norheim."
"A mixture of different peoples Father" the Princess
replied and the King nodded.
"Those... golden badges on your collars... what do they
repersent?"
"The differences in rank your Highness" Sabrina
replied.
"So, each of your are in a different class?" the
Princess asked as David noticed Mattias staring at the
princess again.
"Don't make yourself so obvious Mattias" David
whispered to his assistant.
"She's... beautiful" the aCEO replied sheepishly as
Sabrina explained the difference in everyone's rank
pips.
"So, what brings you before me?" the King asked.
"We have reason to believe that your daughter is in
grave danger." the ANUBIS' CO replied.
The princess looked at her father and he patted her hand.
"The Palace Guardians have kept my daughter from
harm's way her entire life. So how is it possible that
she's in any danger."
"We have reason to believe that there are... certain conspiritors working to kidnap her. We are here to offer assistance in providing for her protection." Serenna replied after getting the nod from her captain.
"Forgive me if I don't seem too concerned about this. There are many threats on my life as well as my daughters. But as I've said, the Palace Guardians are the best. They have served the royal family for generations upon generations."
"We do not doubt that your Highness" Sabrina said, "we
mean no harm in offering assistance. Call it... a
nature of goodwill between our peoples."
The King frowned and the away team exchanged glances.
"There are only 7 of you. What can seven do that
hundreds of Palace Guardians can not?" the King asked,
"and if I *do* agree to this, will you 7 be willing to
give your very lives in protecting us?"
"Our job is to protect *and* preserve life your
Highness" Sabrina replied, "we wish no harm on anyone.
But as you said if you do agree and there is an attack
on you and your daughter, then my officers are
prepared to do whatever it is to protect the both of
you. All I ask is that you let us help. There are
certain things that we can do to ensure your safety."
The King rose from his seat and stepped down from the
dais. He stopped short of Captain Rikar. He met every
eye of the away team members. He placed his hand over
his heart with a closed fist, thumped his chest twice,
then placed his hand on Sabrina's shoulder. Sabrina
smiled and repeated the gesture. The King returned to
his seat.
"I will need a fortnight to think this over" he said
loking to the First Minister, "Minister, you will see
to their every comfort. Tonight, we feast to welcome
Captain Rikar and her officers. We will meet here in
the morrow to discuss my decision."
"Thy will be done your Highness" the First Minister
replied with a bow.
The King and Princess stood and exited as the four
robed men followed them out.
"First Minister, were those the Palace Guardians the
King were talking about?" David asked.
"Yes" he replied.
"Stoic. Reminds me of Vulcans" David said.
"Captain Rikar, if you and your officers will follow
me I'll show you to your quarters."
Sabrina nodded and as the First Minister walked off
the away team followed.
