The woman sat in the dimmed solitude of her office fortress. The surveillance monitors were off, her comm badge lay inactive on the desk in front of her, even the normal humming of PICA's inner workings were silenced as she had dismissed the robot from the room. It was all her, no one could see her, hear her, contact her… she had no fear of interruption, no possibility of disillusioned underlings, no reason not to cry. Still, here she sat, certain she should be upset, shattered or otherwise distraught, yet all she felt was confusion. No tears would come, and she wondered what was wrong with her mental state, she hadn't cried in well over a decade, not even when Sabrina had been declared dead. She thought at the time that she had to be strong for Talia, but in this solitary state, she had no one to protect. It didn't seem normal, she just wanted an outlet.
Sighing, the woman opened her top drawer and removed a small blue velvet box. Before she had gone away, Enaii had intended to give the necklace inside to Sabrina. Now, some indescribable force inside her made her desire to keep it for herself.
Carefully snapping open the lid of the box she gingerly took out a silver locket, it's delicate appearing chain forged from titanium, making it almost impossible to break. Resting the locket softly on her palm, she ran her fingers over the etched cover, three hearts intertwined, a stone imbedded in the center of each. Emerald for Sabrina, sapphire for Talia and onyx for herself.
Slowly, she opened the tiny case to reveal a small hologram of the three of them on the white sands of Risa. It was the day of their wedding, Talia looked so young, so content as she stood between her two mothers in her pastel green dress. Sabrina was breathtaking in a long flowing white gown made exclusively of satin, her only accessory being a single white rose starkly contrasting her brilliant red hair as it blew in the wind. Enaii herself had worn a gown too, a Risean silk dress that hugged her figure. It was a dark shade of royal blue, almost black, but as rays of light shone upon it, the fabric teased you with glimpses of metallic blue hues. In this hologram, and in only this hologram, Enaii had been smiling. The minister had taken the picture immediately after declaring them wed, and that Talia was now legally the child of Sabrina for all time. They had told each other it was a marriage of convenience, to provide for the child, yet in this moment, forever frozen in time, it was clearly the beginning of so much more.
Closing the locket, Enaii undid the clasp of the chain and secured it behind her neck. She allowed the weight to hang for a moment over her shirt before taking it up between her fingers and slipping it under her top, the coldness of the metal against her chest, hovering over her heart, concealed beneath her uniform.
Standing, she nodded slightly to herself. She knew who she was, and who she wasn't, and it was time to stop this self-indulgent depression and release the Enaii that she had always been. She had responsibilities that needed her full attention, as a Starfleet Officer, an Intelligence Operative, and most importantly, as a wife, and a mother.
