Setting: USS ANUBIS, Holodeck 4
For the last three hours the Hirogen Hunter had been in the holodeck
working out his frustrations and discontent about the way their last
mission had ended. That they had 'run away' had not sat well with Uxtar
because it has simply been something that as a Hirogen he had never
been raised to do. What haunted the Sec/Tac officer even more had been that
he had been powerless to help and protect those who had gotten hurt
during the scirmish in the dungeon. Had it not been *his*
responsibility to insure everyone's safety?
As the Hirogen Sec/Tac Officer stood over the countless number of
broken holographic opponents, Uxtar felt nothing but emptiness sweep through
his soul. Despite all of his training and skills as a hunter he had
failed in his duties towards the ANUBIS' XO, CEO, CSciO and CMO.
Had Derek been there, the Vulcan hybrid might have pointed out the
uselessness of this illogical course of thinking. The Hirogen had done
all that he had been capable to protect the other members of the crew
and in the end all had returned to the ANUBIS *alive*. Feeling guilt
for something that had been out of his control, Uxtar figured the FCO would
point out, had been a waste of time and would after all had been said
and done change nothing that had happened.
When the doors to the holodeck appeared out of nowhere and hissed
opened, the Sec/Tac officer reacted more like a beast than a man and
spun around with the bat'leth he had replicated firmly in hand. The
sight of the Hirogen in such a threatening posture took the Ship's Cns
by complete surprise and caused her to gasp.
"I'm sorry," Susan said with a hand on her chest as she tried to regain
her breath. "I had not noticed that the holodeck had been in use."
"It is I who should apologize, counselor," the Hirogen solemnly replied as he quickly lowered the large bladed Klingon weapon, "for many things."
It hadn't taken long for Susan to understand that something had been
troubling Uxtar, a reality that had apparently spread through many of
the members of the senior staff.
"I guess I should be glad to see that you are not the 'hide in your
corner and do nothing' depressive type," the Cns said as she eyed the
many dispatched aliens at scattered at the feet of the Hirogen hunter.
"Hirogens do not get depressed," Uxtar pointed out bluntly.
"I don't suppose they do," Susan replied with a half grin and a nod of
her head. As hard as she tried, the Cns could not remember having read
anything about any cases of Hirogen depression. The reaons having
likely been that anyone from that race suffering from said ailment
would likely dispose of a Counselor with little effort. "Never the less,
should you wish to speak to someone, you know where to find me."
Uxtar smiled. "Thank you Counselor, but I am sure that there are
people onboard the ANUBIS who would benefit from your attention more than I
could," the Hunter said. As much as the Sec/Tac officer enjoyed the
presence of the Cns, he enjoyed it as a friend would, not as an officer
would needed to *unload* his emotional burdens. Not that he considered
himself has having any.
"I will let you get back to whatever it was that you were doing," Susan
said after a few moments of awkward silence.
"You are more than welcome to stay and join me," the Hirogen offered.
"I could easily modify the program to be more to your skills."
Susan glared at the Hirogen for a moment, uncertain as whether or not
she had just been insulted. In the end though the Cns decided to take
what the Sec/Tac has said as a show of consideration and kindly
declined the offer before exiting the holodeck.
