Setting: USS ANUBIS, Sickbay
There was no doubt about it. Lea would remember their last mission for
a long time.
"So how do you feel?" Susan asked of her friend who had not moved from the biobed.
"Betrayed," the CMO sighed.
"I read Enaii's report. She needed to get *all* of the guards in one location. If only one of them had been somewhere else, they could have triggered the alarm." Susan had done all that she could to help her friend. The Cns had hugged her friend, reassured the Doctor and tried everything under the sun. All that had been left for Susan had been to be the last thing she had wanted to be for Lea. The ship's Counselor. "Maybe speaking with Enaii would be a good thing to do. If you'd like I could arrange for a meeting?"
"You mean a counseling session," Lea corrected without delay. "I was not the one who used a fellow shipmate as bait. Not to mention leaving me there by myself against those brutes. If anyone needs counseling it's her, not me! Maybe you should arrange for her to be alone with Uxtar, Pravat and a couple other big muscular men. Be sure that she cannot defend herself either. After that you can ask *her* how she feels."
Oh yeah, there had been no doubts what so ever. Lea would remember
their last mission for a very long time.
"I think what you need is a change of scenery," Susan said as she tried to be Lea's friend once again. As the ship's Cns Susan could have just walked away and made her report to the CO. As a friend though, Susan could not let go of Lea, at least not without giving it one last effort. "I am sure that we can find something in the holodeck libraries that could make it all better. I seem to recall Sabrina mentioning something about a very interesting program based on RISA."
"I am not interested," Lea replied as she turned away from her friend.
The gesture left Susan stunned. Yes Lea had been entitled to be angry. Yes the CMO had every reason to hold a grudge against the ILO. But to have all of this lead to Lea turning away from her friend had been too much for Susan to take.
"Fine! Be that way! If you want a *friend* to talk to, you know where to find me," Susan spat before storming away. It was only after the Cns had stepped out of Sickbay that she immediately regretted what she had said to her friend. Being the ship's Cns, Susan had not been entitled to such a reaction. Being Lea's friend had made the outburst even more inexcusable.
Alone once again, Lea just laid on the biobed and watched as her medical team took care of the others. The ship's ExO had been severally hurt during the fight. Worse had been that David had also been hurt and that she felt no strength or will to go and help him. Whatever Enaii had done had scared Lea deeper than the CMO could understand. Their mission had failed in many different ways, which had ended by plunging IRRAJ into a civil war. The worst of it all had been that the war might eventually prove to be the high point of their mission.
Lea would remember their last mission for a very long time indeed.
Definitively longer than the CMO would care to.
