Ensign Elliot Thomas entered the Admiral's office and only then realised how big the office was, ::wow look at the size of this room:: thought Elliot. "Excuse me Ensign Thomas," said Admiral Koneki.
"Oh sorry Admiral sir, I was just admiring the room, its very 1300BC Egyptian" said Elliot, he then continued on saying with a chuckle in his voice "I better not cut myself or someone might bandage me all up". He then looked at the Admiral's straight face and said "I'm sorry sir, just my sense of humour".
"Its ok Ensign I got it the first time round, unfortunately every new person that enters my office seems to come up with the mummy gag, and after a while it becomes a little stale, however on that note you carry on as you seem to be much more relaxed," replied the Admiral.
"I'mmm.... quite finished with the gags for now sir, however I would like to know about those fantastic statues behind your desk sir, they look amazing." said Ensign Thomas with a smile.
"Ah, a very good question Ensign, and with that question it brings me on to why I have asked you to come here," said the Admiral. "The statues are actually sculptures of Egyptian gods called ANUBIS, SEKHEMET and HORUS, you may at this point think what have Egyptian gods got to do with me... well nothing really, just that one of the Egyptian gods is called *ANUBIS* and that is the name of one of the main ships that run out of this secret base that you are now in called NEW ALEXANDRIA."
"Are you serious?" interrupted Elliot.
"Deadly serious!" replied Admiral Koneki sternly. "Anyway to continue, I would like to say that I have been watching your career ever since the accident of the USS CALBERTH," Charles said as he walked around his desk to sit down.
"I don't understand Admiral Sir, what has the USS CALBERTH got to do with me being at NEW ALEXANDRIA?" Ensign Thomas said as he started to fidget from foot to foot.
"Well... that was yet another good question Ensign. Please take a seat and I will explain, I knew your father Jake very well, he was an excellent worker and a great collegue. Starfleet decided that he was to be picked for the position that I am now going to offer to you. Anyway, with the unfortunate destruction of the USS CALBERTH, I had to locate another person to fill the position of Chief of Operations on the USS ANUBIS, and that is where you come in, if you are anything like your father then we will have one of the best Chief of Operations you could have on a star ship." replied the Admiral.
"My father was that good?" said Elliot with a surprised look on his face.
"As good as the reports that I'm getting in about you, Elliot," replied Admiral Koneki with a smile.
"Then he must have been great," Elliot said with a smirk.
"Yep... great indeed. Well I think we have made the right choice, you are definately your father in the making. If you decide to accept the post I will link in with Captain Rikar as soon as she returns, which will be in a few hours. So Ensign I need to know right now your decition on whether you wish to accept the post or not? The reason being that if you do not wish to accept then I will need to locate the next candidate," said Charles quickly.
::What would Dad have done?:: thought Elliot. "Yes, Admiral sir I will accept the postion with great honor. If this was something that was for my father then it is only right that I take his place," said the Ensign.
"Excellent Ensign Thomas, I hope you can find something to do for the next several of hours at the base?" said the Admiral as he got up from his seat.
"Oh I'm sure my two teenage kids will keep me occupied some how? games? movies you know? kids stuff," replied Elliot.
"Ok, I will contact you when I have spoken with Captain Rikar, and after that you will be on the USS ANUBIS from then on," the Admiral said with a very happy face indeed, he then continued, "Dismissed Ensign and do try to rest, you'll need it, trust me."
::I'll need rest, I wonder what that was all about?:: thought Ensign Thomas as he got up from his chair. He left the Admirals office and went back into the administration area where he met Allyson.
"Hi there, so I guess you'll be looking for your kids, yes?" said Allyson happily.
"If you must," said Elliot in a dull tone.
"Pardon?" Allyson said with an unusual straight face.
"Oh, nothing," replied Elliot with a smile.
"Right, your daughters are currently on the observation deck with Commander Quinn," said Allyson as her smile returned larger and brighter than ever.
