#024 - USS ANUBIS: Rikar: Day 4 - 0500 ("Sunrise")

Setting: USS ANUBIS, Saucer Section, Outer Hull
Stardate: 61037.0500

The young woman stood on top of the ANUBIS' saucer section… her gaze lost over the watery horizon that surrounded her downed ship. Had the situation been different the redheaded woman might have actually enjoyed the sight of the sunbathed sky and ocean… but there had been far too much on the CO's mind to allow for the beauty of the moment to have any impact on her.

Several points turned in the young woman's head what seemed to be a futile effort to make sense of it all… there had just been too many unanswered questions at this time to even begin to figure out what kind of world they had stumbled onto. Although the Prime Directive hung heavily on the CO's thoughts, the redheaded woman could not help but yield to her feelings that somehow the Federation's highest directive had not applied here. The more they dealt with the indigenous people of CABRY III, the more the ANUBIS' CO felt as this was less and less a First Contact situation and more of an enigmatic puzzle. The cat-people had reacted to their presence with a familiarity that had been uncanny, which had been one of the reasons why the redheaded woman had been so quick to authorize an away mission.

Sabrina's doubts about the isolation of CABRY III were further questioned by the flagrant ease with which the fish-people representative had dealt with the whole of the crew. Obviously the alliance of people he represented had wanted to help rescue the members of the away team… but at what cost. From past experience the young woman had known that although their offer for assistance had seemed genuine enough it would sooner or later come with a price to pay. The only thing that Rikar could do at this time though had been to wait to see what would unfold and hope that the four members of the away team would remain safe until such time as they would catch up to them.

"Out for an early morning walk Captain?" The giant Oltharian quietly and respectfully inquired as he joined the young woman on the outer hull of the ANUBIS. Despite his size Elan had always been able to instil a certain amount of calmness around him by his simple presence… and to be honest the redheaded woman had been thankful that it had been him who had come out to watch the sunrise.

"Enjoying the fresh air… How are things down in Engineering?" The young woman countered with.

"Ensign Norheim has everything under control, but we are far from being able to get the ship's systems working to were we need them to." The towering Oltharian replied, his words as gentle as the ocean breeze.

"What do you think of our new found allies?" The redheaded woman inquired after a few moments of shared silence.

"Fasham and his people seem honest in their desire to help us find and save our team… but there is so much about this world and its people that we do not know that it is very difficult to make an accurate judgment. We first thought that Captain Kattarihanna had been honest with us, but now there is no way to know who is trying to use or abuse us." The giant replied while he kept his gaze fixated on the distant horizon.

"I think it will be safest for us to go on the assumption that they are *both* trying to use us for some reason or another… we'll just have to wait and see which is worse. What still bothers me though is that neither of the races we have so far met seems in the least troubled by our different appearances… it is as if they have seen other Humanoids at some point." The ANUBIS' CO pointed out with a sigh.

=/\= Ensign Thomas to Captain Rikar… sensors are picking up a sail ship heading our way. Unable to get anything more on it, but it is coming from the heading given to us by Fasham. =/\= The Ops officer reported, his voice having betrayed his growing concerns.

"Assemble the senior staff… we need to formulate some sort of a plan to see who will board this new ship and go after the away team."
