The raised eyebrow was the only indication of puzzlement and frustration on the Half-Vulcan’s face. The calculations and values of his research did not add up. In fact they made little sense at all; there was little logic to his findings. The FCO knew he could not yet bring his research to the Captain, for it only opened itself to more questions.

Well if logic dictates failure it also must than lead one in the proper direction, or so Vulcan history taught. Derek began a re-evaluation of their current circumstances. They were stranded in the middle of a large body of water with barely enough power to maintain minimal ships functions. They had met two of the suspected indigenous species that populated the planet, neither of which seemed to be trusted by members of the command staff. They had an away team that may or may not be in serious trouble, and possibly worse to some... all defensive weapons were unusable.

The half human glanced at the weapon on the desk, an ancient Japanese Long sword from his personal collection. The rest he had given to the big Hirogen SEC/TAC to be given to the marines. If there had been anyone in the room with him they would have been puzzled by the sudden raised eyebrow and the momentary slight smile on his face. Picking up his weapon he left the lab and headed for the hanger deck.

The FCO entered the hanger deck and went straight to his ship the DRAGONSEYE. The low hum of its engines had a slight calming effect upon him. He knew as long as they ran the ANUBIS was still alive and capable of flight. Entering the control cabin, he quickly verified that all systems were functioning as they should. Watching the power levels he increased the power of the engines as he shifted power to the DRAGONSEYE's small replicator.

Derek began searching his private computer files for the information that he wanted, as he found each bit, he programmed the replicator, and watched the power levels very closely.

Location: USS ANUBIS, Corridor outside of Uxtar's quarters

Uxtar rubbed the sleep from his eyes as he left his quarters; glancing up and down the corridor he snapped his head back to the left. Not sure if he was fully awake he rubbed his eyes again. Coming toward him was his friend the half Vulcan FCO but it couldn't be… The Vulcan approaching him was right out of the history books on Vulcan he had studied.

Dressed in what looked like brown buckskin pants with leather shirt and vest. Two good size bags hung on either side with the straps crisscrossing his chest. Missing was the long sword, in its place were two slightly curved wide bladed swords strapped to his hips. He also carried some strange looking items in his hands.

Shaking his head in disbelief the SEC/TAC stuttered… "D… D… Derek is that you?"

"Ah my friend, is it so hard to believe your own eyes?" Stormwind actually smiled when he answered.

"Why are you dressed like an ancient Vulcan?" the Hirogen inquired.

"Camouflage, you mentioned that the Kaitan called you a troll but had no reaction to seeing the *human* members of the crew. Perhaps being dressed differently will give us an edge… so to speak." Derek answered with his stone face.

"I see the merit of the idea, but what is that you carry with you?" Uxtar asked as he glanced at the items in his friend's hands.

"A gift for you, this is a crossbow, an ancient EARTH weapon from the 1800's." The Vulcan answered as he handed the crossbow and ammunition to the big hunter. "And in this bag is a little surprise… I hope. Also from old EARTH based on an item called a hand grenade. Unfortunately I was unable to duplicate them exactly, but using glassware from the labs and the Blackhole… well hopefully they will work."

Reaching into the bag carefully Derek's friend pulled out a bottle of synth ale and looked at it curiously. "So how does it work?"

The half human again smiled. "Just don't drop it. I had to modify the fuse system a little. But basically it is filled with an explosive mixture and small things called ball bearings. I placed a modified contact/pressure fuse in it… all you have to do is throw it and it should explode when it hits something solid."

"Should?" asked an incredulous Uxtar.

"Well I haven't had a chance to test it, but the theory is valid." The Vulcan stated calmly.

"I felt it more important to have it all ready before this new vessel arrives."

The Hirogen slung the quiver of bolts onto his back and hefting the crossbow looked at his friend. "Well shall we join the others? ... Oh and if anyone should ask… I don’t know you."

The crewman stepped into the cross corridor as the Hirogen and Vulcan approached. He was surprised by the laughter of the two strangely attired Officers.

The obvious joke made by Uxtar caught Derek by surprise and he was laughing before he could stop himself. In a way it made him feel that all would work out… eventually.
