     an open letter .........

Two young Indian students were  talking over  phone in  the New Year eve of 2005. First, they were discussing on  their progress in research but getting bored, they  finally switched  into  the news paper reports on 'Tsuanmi',  the tidal  waves  that  hit the south Asian countries  on 26 December,  2004 to  kill hundreds of  thousands  of  people and leave many more homeless. This tragedy  made  one  of them feel to help someway the  affected people.  The other suggested, that's  a good  idea, we must do  something  for them; but  why don't  we think beyond that.  We sometimes talked  to help the people in
India but  never  took  this matter seriously.  The first  person  agrees,  'you are right'.  So  they went ahead and  established a group for the service of  people in  remote Indian villages.  They  named this group as 'First Aid'. It was January 3, 2005. By sharing the vision with their friends, they convinced eight more people to join the group  within a week. The name 'First Aid' was not  properly reflecting the purpose of this group.  On January 18, 2005,  they changed the group name into 'DIVA'. DIVA stands for An Association for the Development of Indian Villages.

DIVA is a non-profit group, voluntarily run by its members.  It invites people from all ages, from all corners of  our society. A member  who is a student will uphold  the goal of this group  by his/her energy and enthusiasm, by actively participating in all projects.  An educationist  can properly guide  DIVA Literacy Program (DLP) by sharing  his/her experience and thus giving our project a definite shape. A medical practitioner may  join DIVA Health Care Program (DHCP) that will be launched  in near future.  These are  some  examples  about  the  scope  of  service
in DIVA.  We have other projects where we definitely need your help.

At present, we have members from India, USA and Germany. We  are getting  bigger and stronger in a slow
but steady rate. You must deeply feel to help others without any reservation. This is the only  criteria to become
a member  of this  group.  If  you decide  to
join our group,  your membership must be approved  by  the Group Coordinator (GC). You may  contact DIVA Group Management (DGM) to know more about this group. From this
site, you can also access information abou our running
projects and current group  members.  We are looking forward for your cooperation with DIVA.  With best wishes,

     Yours sincerely,

          Ujjal Das
  (Coordinator, DIVA)
