...The Nine...

+ The Nine + Story + Draco's Inferno Weyr +

Long ago, when the world was very young, it was divided into three places seperated by three Veils, intense sheilds of spiritual and magical energy. One third was pure and good, bathed in eternal light and called Venia. The second was sinful and evil, cloaked in darkness and called Atrox. Between the two was Aether, neutral to both good and evil. For many years Aether stayed free of influence from both Venia and Atrox, until Atrox found a hole in the third Veil that seperated it from Aether. It began to breed with a verocity unknown to the Aethians, spreading darkness as it went.

Not wishing to watch Aether fall to Atrox and be taken over itself, Venia tried to help by creating and sending nine powerful beings, each representing a certain element of the world and gifted with powers pertaining to that element. They were Ignis of the element fire, Fona of the element water, Silvus who governed the element wood, Kuuki of air, Daichi of earth, Akarui who controlled light and her twin brother, Acerbu of darkness, Mayoke of the element spirit and the one associated most with Aether and called her patron saint, Kokuuzou of the void.

They were called The Nine and worked to purge Aether of the Atrox. It took many years and a great War that nearly destroyed Aether, but The Nine succeeded and hurled back the Atrox, Mayoke and Kokuuzou using their powers to seal the breach in the Veil. During the battle, all the inhabitants of Aether helped The Nine in any way they could, providing food and shelter, medicine and doctoring. Once it was clear that Atrox had been pushed back they wanted nothing to do with The Nine, taking away their assistance. In retaliation and anger at the Aethians betrayal, The Nine began to attack and destroy villages while constantly quabbling amongst themselves.

Venia saw what it's creations were doing and attempted to eradicate them, only succeeding in destroying their bodies, not their spirits. The Nine wandered, not truly alive but not quite dead. They searched for new bodies to house them and make penance for the crimes they comitted all those years ago. When they came to the capitol of Aether, seeking forgiveness, the inhabitants locked them away in a magically sealed chamber in fear. There they stayed for thousands of years in a sort of hibernation, awaiting someone to release them.

As they slept, Aether crumbled around them. Atrox broke through the same breach it had thousands of years ago and, with no one to stop it, overtook Aether and nearly Venia. In a last desperate attempt to save themselves, Venia freed The Nine from their chamber, but was cut off before it could restore their bodies. This is the story of their search for a way to help and their own redemtion.
