Her capture was not a pleasant one, she had not known these dragons would be so dark, so hostile. Either way, she laid her small clutch of two and loved them, no matter the sire. At least one of her sons seemed to not be so... homicidal. Immediately after their hatching, Kertakth fled. Part of her wanted to return to Star City or Draco's Inferno, wherever Musei' was, and the other part wanted to continue wandering. Her will was weak, so she traveled on.
The Nexus was an incredibly huge place, she couldn't visit every place even if she wanted to. But Kertak' loved to be on the move and stayed that way, never remaining in one place for more than a week or so. Eventually the constant resettling got old. The Bipedra must have jaded her, for she longed for a home and a bed, for her only friend. On her planet-hopping home, the bronze stopped at a place called Starburst, (just because she was planning on settling, didn't mean she couldn't squeeze a little more wandering in).
Everyone has heard of such an abominable thing as Abandonment. Sometimes it's the dragon that decides to cut the link between them and their rider, for personal reasons. Mostly it's the rider who is just gone one day, to illness, war, or for no reason at all. Even so, Kertakth had never actually met such a poor dragon as the one Abandoned by it's bond. She was (or had been) a fairly happy-go-lucky dragoness, caught like carefree dandelion fluff in the breeze. But even dandelion fluff must settle, to grow roots and a new generation of dandelions. Kertak' chuckled to herself, thinking what Musei' would say if she heard such serious things coming out of her.
Her first encounter with Resanith was near the Abandoned caverns he inhabited with many others. The bronze male looked the most forlorn of them all, turned human-hater by the loss of his own bond. She approached cautiously, bowing her head to catch his downcast gaze as he sunned one noon. If you bend any lower, you'll be tasting sand. she said, a smile in her voice. He glanced up at her, lifting his head suddenly but not replying. I'm Kertakth, of Draco's Inferno. You are...? Gaze returning to the ground, he muttered something softly. I'd say I can't read minds, but it'd be a lie. Resanith, right? He nodded, scuffing a paw against the stones.
I know you are Abandoned, Resanith. Why haven't you found a new rider? The question was asked in a friendly tone of voice, but something about it must have offended the bronze. He whipped his head up and glared at her with firey red and gold eyes. What do I need with another human bond? They are not worth it... If one of them would leave me with no afterthought, I don't hold much belief for the rest. His words were spat venomously, almost like a physical blow to the bronze dragoness. She took a few steps away from Resanith and his buring gaze. It was her turn to mumble, a soft apology uttered under her "breath".
Resanith turned his back on Kertakth and sloped back into the caverns. She stood outside for awhile after, just gazing after the bronze. What if it wasn't a human that wanted to rebond you? It was said quietly, sadly, but her mindvoice carried to Resanith as he laid down on his couch.
It kept him awake that night.
After an unsettling night's sleep, or lack thereof, Resanith winged up to the ledge of Kertakth's temporary quarters. He knew she'd be moving on come full break of day so he arrived just as pale gray light began to filter over the horizon. Kertakth? She poked her head out onto the ledge, blinking sleepily. Resanith. Not who I'd expect to come calling at this hour. How can I help you? Gazing down at the smaller female, Resanith mumbled something, an odd puppy-dog expression on his face. Kertak' blinked again and turned her ears toward the bronze as if to improve her "hearing". What was that?
Can I come with you? Stunned to wakefulness, Kertak' stepped fully out onto the ledge. Come with me? As what, a cohort? She smirked slightly up at him. Maybe... as a bondmate? She hesitated for the briefest of moments before smiling in her mind and replying warmly, Of course you can. Kertak' experienced what all beings who bonded must have at that moment of joining, the sudden melding of minds and shared thoughts. A warmth spread up through her chest, flowing through her veins like a golden light. Resanith gave an almost relieved sigh, the raw wound his rider had left on his heart was suddenly closed. Maybe not fully healed, but closed.
