I wrote this poem for my computer
all across the land
To tell the people about my state
and hope they'll understand
West Virginia is my home
and there's things you need to know
So listen carefully to this poem
in case you ever go
When stepping out of my front door
the hills are a beautiful sight
And you should hear the crickets
singing through the night
The people here are friendly
and helpful when they can
They stand for what they believe in
and won't back down for any man
Preachers out-rank the gangsters
and Bibles out-rank the guns
I guess we are a gospel state
for Christ is number one
So if you're looking for excitement
and searching for some fun
All we have is peace & quiet
and love for everyone
If you ever come to visit
and you're walking down the street
Don't be surprised to see a smile
who knows it might be me

Autumn in
West Virginia
A Short Story
My nephews Chris and Jon came to visit us this summer. Chris
and I were on the front porch talking when he said, "I love it
here Aunt Dottie". I asked, "Why?" After all he lives in a
beautiful state. (not telling)
He eaised back in his chair and a serenity look came over his face
as he spoke, "Because it's so peaceful and quiet here". There's no
pollution or smog, the air is so clean. He loved the trees,
and enjoyed watching humming birds 
as they would fight over the feeder.
Little did he know that my favorite time was in the morning, on
our front porch swing, (cup of coffee) enjoying Mother Nature.
I 
the 
birds, trees, flowers, wind, smell of fresh cut grass, etc.
I was amazed that he had such insight on life. I didn't realize
how intelligent he was until now. He spoke not just words, but
he spoke from the heart.
So this is why I'm dedicating the poem above to my nephew,
Christopher.
