Nineteen women from very diverse ethnic backgrounds established Delta Phi Kappa in 1995.  This group of women found it difficult relating to the other four existing sororities at Sacred Heart University. It's foundation laid in its desire to bring to the front burner, the beauty of diversity. Delta prides in its array of cultural beauty. With 19 strong, diverse women, Delta Phi Kappa was formed and ignited a fire to become a recognized organization.

After four months and several drafts of the constitution, the foremothers of Delta Phi Kappa went before the Greek Council board on February 23,1995. On that day, after the questioning period, Delta's request to become a recognized organization was denied! Hurt and disillusioned, Delta went back with only onelight of hope...to be able to bring their request back to the council on March 23, 1995.

After a month and a lengthy spring break, Delta strenghtened their stance and won over the ambivalent council. Today, Delta is six classes strong and over forty members deep, all of which are very proud of their cultural backgrounds. These women choose to share their cultural backgrounds not only with each other but with anyone who is willing to learn.

Delta Phi Kappa has been growing continuously over the years. However, numbers are not priority.  We take pride in our philosophy of "quality over quantity" because by stressing quality we make a valuable investment in our future.  We're not looking for perfection, because perfection is not human. We're looking for someone who wants to better herself because you can't go anywhere but up.
