Welcome to my small corner of the web.

On this site you will be able to see over 250 photographs of my plant collection.
This collection has taken many years to aquire and the garden itself has been
re-landscaped during the last 5 years.
The garden is located in Bristol, a small
city in the South West of England.
The collection numbers over 750 species
and varieties of plants, some are rare
or unusual and are recent
introductions, whilst others are very
common or well known and may
have been in cultivation for centuries.
My taste in plants ranges from alpine and woodland species to larger perennials and small shrubs. My favourite genera include  Helleborus, Pulsatilla, Roscoea,
Cyclamen, Clematis and Hosta.
I tend to class the garden as being small
as it measures 86' X 16' and  faces South.
As the local winters tend to be mild but damp this enables some plants which are usually regarded as tender to be grown outside with some degree of sucess since the soil has been improved by adding extra drainage.  Some plants need to be protected though from any excess winter wet particulary the alpines. The garden is split into a series of habitats or microclimates each with a different soil composition and aspect which enables a diverse range of plants to be grown, this does not mean that the garden is merely a collection of plants though, as each area blends into the next
to create an attractive natural design, but the emphasis is still on the plants rather than it looking like a show garden.

I think  it's about time that the plants were once again the most important feature in our gardens insted of decking, barbeques, chrushed glass mulches, stainless steel or garishly coloured  paintwork.  I don't have much time for modern garden designers or celebrities that spend their time opening garden centres, having ghost written books published or selling their name to anything even if it's not remotely connected with horticulture. The people I do have the upmost respect for though are the true plantsmen like Roy Lancaster, Christopher Grey-Wilson, and Brian Mathew and many of
the superb nurserymen that we have here in the UK like
Will McLewin, Martin Rickard, Raymond Evison and Christopher Lloyd. My personal aim is to encourage people
to grow as wide a range of interesting and beautiful plants
as i can and not to just entertain the masses.
So why this website ? Well although I have many varied interests my 2 main passions are plants and music and my ambition is to become a television gardener. For the last few years gardening has become biggest growth areas. This general interest from the public and the subsequent effect on retail trade is by and large down to the new popularity of gardening programmes. Unfortunatly in this new televisual world of garden make-overs and avant garde design one important  thing has been neglected ..
THE PLANTS.
I like to go to as many plant shows as I can during the year,
so if you see me please come over and say hello.
Happy gardening.
