About The Gallery of China
|
Although in many ways the ideas behind The Gallery of China started in the 1970's it wasn't until 1996 that the gallery proper was formed. Parallel with the phenomenal rise of the internet our humble beginnings have been transformed. Tens of thousands of people now visit our website every week. |
Our Story
So, this is our story. Over the last five or six years we've worked with and received invaluable help from people with various areas of expertise (see consultants to The Gallery of China). Also, none of this would have come about if it were not for certain other people along the way. The first of which was Andrew's martial arts instructor back in the 1970's. Remember the Bruce Lee films and how all of a sudden Kung Fu became the thing to do. We won't mention his instructor's name but it suffices to say that it was through him that the owner first became interested in China and Chinese culture. Since that time his interest in China has led him to study related philosophy and religion at B.A. and M.A. levels at the University of Lancaster in the north-west of England. As you'll know if you've looked at our articles Chinese paintings are very closely connected with Chinese philosophy and religion. Andrew says that ever since owning his first Chinese painting he's come to regard them as being very special. He is most fond of landscape and bamboo and is still amazed at how even one painting can transform the ambience of a room. After finishing his studies at university in 1995, during his visits to China, he's sought only the finest artists who's work you now see on this website. The philosophy regarding The Gallery of China is to provide the finest Chinese paintings, both traditional and contemporary, plus periodically updated insights into this general terrain, married together with first class customer service.
