You walk through the gateways Fae, the keeper and guardian of the Forest hold open for you. You hurry though at her promptings. Once you step through the magical portal and reach the other side, you are assulated by cold. The tempture is vastly different from the feild you just came from. There, in the field, it was warm, and had a warm breeze blowing. It gave you the impression of the peak of summer. Here, it is the dead of winter. As far as you can see, the ground is blanketed in a heavy layer of snow. Not even a hint of breeze stirs the snow. You shiver in the sub-zero temetures, and wrap your arms around yourself in an attemt to keep warm. Fae steps through the portal and stands beside you. You notice, with a touch of jelousy, that she seems to be unfazed by the cold. "A little chilly are you?" You nod, your teath chattering together. "Well, here. Take this. I don't think Deborah would be too pleased if you died out here..." The elf holds out a large coat. It is a musty brown color, and very heavy. You slip the coat on and fasten the buttons together, and pull the hood up. To your great relief, the coat hangs all the way to your feet. As soon as the coat is on, you begin to feel better. The cold is not so bitting anymore. You thank Fae, and ask for directions to the dragon's home. "Well, I think if you walk off to the left, you should be able to find it. Just keep walking, and either Thorne will find you, or the dragon will." You gulp, a little more wary now. You thank Fae one last time, then turn and start the way Fae had told you. You walk through the heavy snow for what seems to be eternity. Soon, you are just concentrating on putting one foot in front of the other. After a bit, a wind picks up, and the temeture drops even more. The wind grows even stronger, and soon, snow starts to fall. Even the coat is not helping to keep you warm any more. You walk with your head bowed to keep the snow and wind from getting into your face. Even more time passes. How much, you cannot say. You know your body is reaching the end of it's limits. If you don't find warmth soon... You shake your head, trying not to think about if that comes. You glance over your sholder. Huh, thats odd, you could have sworn you saw something over there... You eyes are growing heavy. How easy it would be to just lie down in the snow, to forget the world, and to just sleep. No! You think to yourself. You know what would happen if you sleep. You would never wake up again... You stumble, and fall into the snow. Your vision blurs. Just before you pass out, a dark shadow materalizes before you. Then, the darkness takes you.... *************** Deborah was walking through the halls of the Darkelf Agency building. It wasn't her month to give out a clutch, but that didn't stop her from wandering the halls, meeting new adopters, and catching up with old. Lasandian and Koudo had just had their very first clutch. Lasandian, the mother, was in the nesting room with Koudo and their eggs. Deborah decied, that since she had plenty of free time, that she would stop in and visit with the two. Lasandian's bondmate, Lily, was an old friend of Deborah's. The young woman slipped into the room quietly, carfully not to disturb the new parents. The storm female was lying with her head and tail curled around the new eggs to keep them warm. Koudo, a yellow air, stood near by, his eyes shinning with pride and joy. "Lasandian," She whispered carfully. "How do you fare? Are you all right?" The large dragon looked at her, a smile on her face. "Don't worry for me little one. I am perfectally fine. And the eggs are all helthy and whole." "Thats wonderful news!" Darkelf dragons have a very long gestation period. In that time, the mother is very sensitive to the little dragons. Once the eggs are layed, the mother becomes even more sensitive to them. If one is harmed or ill in it's egg, she would know. Deborah came forward to inspect the eggs for herself. She placed her hand on the nearest one, a dark green egg, and felt the warmth radiating out of the egg. She could feel the little one move slightly within. The young woman smiled. No matter how mnay times she felt it, the life within the eggs always amazed her. A flash of light tickled across her mind. She gasped and stiffened, compleatly suprised. The littling within the egg had toutch her mind. The littling inside did it again, bolder this time. Deborah stumbled back, breaking contact with the egg. Well, thats never happened before, she thought to herself. The dragon inside the egg had asked her to take it with her. Back to the Forest. It asked to be taken. The dragon inside wanted to bond with her. She looked up wildly at the two dragons before her. They looked at one another, and something passed between them. "He wants to go with you. To be your bondmate." Koudo said. She opened her mouth to reply, but nothing came out. "Take him with you." Like I can deine a bond, she thought, then sterned. "I won't take the dragon away from another adopter. I have Sasha and Nightsong. Others have none." "There will be more dragonlings to come." Lasandian said with a smile. "I doubt he will have anyone but you." The dragon toutched her mind again, and she sighed. "I will apply for him, but I cannot say if I will get him." Koudo and Lasandian smiled as she hurried from the room. *** "Here ya go!" Desiree said, and placed the green egg in her arms. "It's all yours!" Deborah started at the egg. "Really, don't worry about it. No one applyed for it anyways. It's yours. See ya!" She said with a wave over her sholder. Deborah blinked at the egg, then smiled. She had really hope to get him, for all her protests. Now he needed to have a home of his own, and she knew just the place. There was even a guaridan there. Snow and ice... *************** "Thorne!! Thorne come quick! I think it's hatching!" Deborah cuddled her egg in her lap. A small hole was opened in the side. An eye appeared, then dissapeared. Thorne came running up. "Ack! Deborah! Put it down! You could get hurt!" The fairy snatched the shaking egg from her and set it in it's nest. "Thats what the nest is there for. You act like you've never seen a dragon hatch before!" Deborah blushed, then turned her attention to the dragon. The egg shook all over, growing stronger and stronger, untill crack! The egg exploded into shratinal that flew every where. When Deborah looked again, sitting in the little nest of ice was a beautiful baby dragon. "Ooo! A boy! And he's an ice! Just what we were hoping for!" The girl snatched up the dragon and cuddled it. "I think I shall call you Eien." Thorne raised an eyebrow, and Deborah frowned at him. "What? I like it! It means eternity! Thats your name, my littling." Deborah cuddled it some more, while Thorne looked on. *************** Deborah walked the halls of Darkelf alone. Whenever she had some free time she liked to just watch the going ons around her. She turned the corner and found herself face to face with one of Darkelf's adopters, Andi. Deborah and Andi talked often, and were good friends. "Hi Andi! Hows Tavi?" "Good." She replyed. "You know that maze Desiree had a few days ago." Deborah nodded. "Well, I won the prize, and since I know your birthday wasn't too long ago, so I thought I would give the prize to you as a present." Andi held out a small blue egg. "The prize was a special Eki." Deborah's eyes widened. She took the egg carfully and cradled it in her arms. "Wow! Oh, thank you Andi! This is so nice of you. Really, is so great!" She said, gazing down at her new egg. Andi smiled warmly. "Good, glad you do. I bet Eien will be happy with a little friend to play with." Deborah nodded, and thanked her friend again, and took her new egg home to Eien. *************** After Eien grew into a teen, Deborah entered a dungeon that Desiree was holding. She had never been very good at mazes, so she found very little, and never even made it to the end. But she didn't mind. She found four things in the dungeon. Two orbs, and two weapons, all of which she gave to Eien as growing presents. *************** Deborah lay against Eien's side. A full grown Eien. He was very handsom, and Sasha had tesingly commented on how if she wasn't all ready mated and a mother and grandmother dozens of times over, she would have been happy to put his bachlor days to an end. Thats where they found themselves now, discussing mating. Deborah had always encourged her bondmates to find heartmates. Several of her dragons had decied to remain single, but most had chosen mated life. Deborah had just asked Eien if he desired a mate. "Well... I don't know. I suppose if the right girl came along, but.." "Don't worry, my love, you have all the time in the world to find the right one. *************** Your eyes flutter open, still grogy. Leaning over you is a young man. His hair is dark brown and unkemt, with dark brown eyes to match. His blue shirt is tattered at the edges, the laces hanging open in the front. Dark grey pants and boots compleat his outfit. What draws your attention most are his silver grey wings. He is a fairy. He leans back and puts a hand on his hip. You glance around, to see where you are. It looks like a little house under the snow! You can see the raging storm outside throug the windows. "Your awake." You don't really know how to respond to that, so you just sit there. "I'm called Thorne. I'm the keeper of a dragon from Darkelf." That name... Darkelf... it sounds familar to you. Then it hits you, the strange dream, or was it a vision? "The dragon's name is Eien, which means eternity. He is an ice, just as we hoped." Thorne points to your right. You look to your right and see a large nest made out of ice and snow. In the center of the icy nest is a dragon. He is looking up at you with icy green-blue eyes. He is blue all over, like the color of ice. He is so beautiful. "The storm is dieing down now. We will take you back." You thank Thorne, who simply looks at you, then heads out the door, closly followed by Eien. Huh, you think to yourself, those two are as cold as the land they live in. "Hurry up." You nod and hurry after the two. |
