Fae raises her arms above her head slowly, closing her eyes for conecntration. After a few moments, she begins to mutter under her breath. The words are soft, and they slip over your ears. It is as if you are hearing them from under a veil of water. You think that if you could hear them, it wouldn't matter, becuase you could never understand them.
As Fae chants, a small pin prick of light appears before her. With each word Fae speaks, the dot of light grows, and grows untill it becomes the size and shape of a large door.
The elf's words become stronger and the glowing door way dissapears. You frown, but say nothing, for Fae is still chanting. The space where the light had been suddenly begins to waver. It trembles and shimmers as if a great heat was rising out of the ground causing marages.
You gasp and take a step back when the shimmering air begins to melt. The air drips and oozes down to the ground where it dissapears. With each drop of air that melts, the background comes with it. It is as if Fae is melting a hole through reality itself.
"Exactly." Fae says, turning to you. You let out a small gasp, not realizing she had finished. You hadn't realized that you had spoken aloud. Or had you...
Through the gap, you can see a very different place than the field you stand in now. While in the field, the sun is shinning bright, in the place beyond the gateway, night lapped at the world.
Fae, the Keeper of the Forest, ushers you thought the gateway with her hands. As you step into the new world, many things change. The air tempeture drops greatly, from warm summer to the feel of cool fall. The field dissapears, and is replaced by a dark forest. You can see in the sky, the stars and moon, which are shining with a briliance you have never seen before. The air is calm and still, making a calm peace settle over you. A small path, rugged with disuse, lays at your feet.
"This path," Fae says gently, as if unwilling to disturbe the calm in the air. "Will take you down through the woods, to the dragon's home. The keeper there will be glad to tell you a little about this place. Good luck." You thank Fae, and start down the path.
The path is jagged, with thick plants over taking it. You step carfully, not wanting to fall. In a few moments, the trees block your view of Fae and the shining gateway. Darkness is before you and behind. You might have been worried or frightened at any other place, but for some reason, the though of fear is driven from your mind, and is replaced by the calm, quite sounds of the night.
You walk on, not hurredly, the calm willing you to take your time. Suddenly, the trees and path end without warning, opening into a large clearing. Taking up most of the clearing is a large pond. Now, without the protection of the trees, a cool wind blows softly around you.
The edge of the pond is compleatly surrounded by a ring of white quarts crystals. Its waters are dark blue, and reflect the briliant stars and moon above, creating a second sky on the surface of the pond.
Sitting at the edge of the pond is a pile of white water plants shaped into a nest. You gaze longest at the nest, wondering if anything lays inside.
You settle down into the soft grass, gazing at the lake with it's nest near the edge of the water. The soft, warm wind and the rythmatic lapping of the water lulls you like a bedtime song, and you don't even notice when you slip into sleep.

Deborah held the letter with one hand because Fae was clutching at the other arm. The letter was from Keltic Rose Refuge. It read:
I am sorry to inform you that the abandoned dragon you applied for has already been adopted.
Fae sighed and let go of the girl's arm.
"I'm sorry." The elf said simply. Deborah shruged and smiled.
"Oh well. I really didn't expect to get her anyways. I already have a few dragons, so I bet she went to someone who had none." Fae looked at her, trying to read any emotion in her eyes. "Don't worry Fae. I'm fine, really. I'm glad that she went to someone without a dragon." The girl smiled warmly at her friend and gave her a wink. Fae nodded, bleaving her now.
"So what are you going to do with this place?" Deborah turned her gaze to the quarts ringed pond.
"I think I will save it for later. You know, Moonwind and Hira are having their clutch soon."
"Oh! How exciting! I didn't know that."
"Yes, I think I will save this for their child." Fae smiled at her, and Deborah smiled back.

A few weeks later, Moonwind and Hira had their clutch. All the eggs went out to good homes. Deborah was aloud to keep one of the eggs, since Moonwind was her bondmate. She placed the egg on a different home she had made. She hadn't exactally forgotten about this home, but placed it the back of her mind, for later use.
Time passed, and dragons of Moonwind's clutch grew. Then, two dragon eggs were abanoded. One of the eggs was adopted right away, but the second was still in need of a home.
Moonwind was deeply upset, for they were his children, and he wanted them all to have wonderful homes, and to be well cared for. Deborah too, was upset.
Lady Eternal Rose, the leader of Rose Caverns, was kind enough to agree to let her take in the abandoned dragon. The memory of the home surfaced in her mind, and she smiled.
It would need a little redoing. Later, Deborah spent a good deal of time using her small bit of magic to shape a few quarts into balls for the dragon to play with. The white quarts balls would make perfect toys. She also died a few of them blue with her magic to add a little varity. Soon, all the toys were finished, and the home was ready for the new dragon....

About a week later, Deborah came rushing into the home, flustered and excited.
"Gem! She's coming!" The mermaid looked up and blinked at the over zelous girl. "Really! Fae is brining her though a gateway right now. Poor thing. She is very timid and quiet. She might open up more once she is settled, but it's been hard for her without a bondmate for so long." Gem nodded, and just then, a magical gateway opened up right next to the water.
A beautiful, young dragon stepped causously through the gateway, which closed behind her. Deborah hurried to her side, and the dragon smiled, relived to see her bondmate there.
She was very pretty, her scales a shimmering white, and her eyes a bright blue. Her wings were small, and her feet webed. She was very beautiful.
"Gem, this is Maru, a white water." Gem bobed her head and smiled warmly at the dragon.
"I think we are going to be good friends in time." Maru smiled shyly and ducked her head a little.
"Well Maru, what do you think?" The young dragon looked around carfully at her new home.
"It is wonderful. Thank you so much." The dragons blue eyes glinted with pleasure. Deborah put her arms around her neck.
"I'm glad you do love, I'm glad you do." Then, the girl started, and gasped. "Oh! Goodness, I almost forgot! I have a present for you." Maru brightened as Deborah ran over to the edge of the trees. She came back with a box with air holes punched in the sides and top.
She handed the box to Maru, who opened it. Inside was a little white dragon creature.
"His name is Sori. He's a Baiton." Maru blinked rapidly for a few moments.
"Thank you. Very much." She said simply.

A few days later, Maru grew into an adult. She was even more beautiful than before. She and Lavan had become very good friends. Lavan's sense of humor kept Maru happy, and Maru's quietness made Lavan gentler. The arangment worked quite nicly. Maru was still very quite and with drawn, but she was getting better.
After a few weeks of being an adult, Maru began to brood, and Deborah knew why. When dragons reached adulthood, those that wished for a mate and children grew preoccupied. Those who wished not to bond, stayed happy. It happened to almost every dragon at one poin or another in their life. Maru was just a little eairly. Maru, of course, denied that anything was wrong. Deborah began the search for a perfect mate for her Maru...

Your eyes open slowly, and you blink sleeply, looking around you. You see the quarts ringed pond and realize where you are. You carefully get to your feet, wondering how long you were asleep.
You gaze back out at the white nest. A rippling movement off to one side of the nest draws your attention. A blond head comes out of the water. The girl looks around for a moment, as if looking for something, then she sees you, and dips back under the water. You walk to the edge of the pond, as close as you can get with the white quarts there.
The girl resurfaces again, and swims twords you.
"Hello!" She calls out. You give a greeting. "My name is Gem. Who might you be?" You give yoru name. "Ah, a human, I see." You frown at that, and then realize that she isn't human. Her ears have little fins on the end of them, and the flick back and forth, catching sounds. Gem notices the direction of your gaze.
"I'm a mermaid! See?" She lifts her tail out of the water for you to see. You gasp, not realizing that she was a mermaid. Gem shifts back down into the water. She stays close enough to the surface that you can still see her.
Her skin is a very pale blue. She has webs between her fingers and oh her ears. The webs are dark blue that match her sapphire eyes.
Her tail is different shades of blue, with dark sapphire fins. Around her neck she wears a string of perls, and a matching one around her waist.
"Are you here to see the dragon?" You nod, looking carfully around for the dragon. "Good, Maru enjoy's visitors. If you like, I can show you around a little while we wait for her to come up." You agree, and Gem shows you a little bit of the home. Soon, she reaches a little pile of toys, and she indicates to it.
"Deborah made toys out of some of the white quarts that are here." She points to a few round objects next to the nest.
The surface of the lake ripples and a beautiful dragon surfaces. She is white all over, with brillent blue eyes. Maru looks at you for a few moments, then dissapears under water again.
"Well, whites arn't very talkitive, even to their bondmates, you know. She is a white water. She doesn't have a mate yet, but who knows, maybe soon.." You thank her for showing you around, and for letting her see Maru, then you start back home...
Deborah made the new dragon some special toys!
