The Healing Den Name: Veera Gender: Female Age: 16 Race: Elf Decription: Long, light brown hair. Green eyes. Green forest clothing. Personality: Easly upset, but never gives up once her mind is set. Sinks into short depressions when something goes wrong, but is soon ready to try again. Veera sat under a tree, her head in her arms. Yet another failed attempt. The young elf maid had, once again, missed a chance to bond to a dragon. She had been travling for the past two weeks, going from hatching ground, to hatching ground, but each time, either the hatchings had already taken place, or the canidates were already chosen. Her friend, Reia, sat next to her, trying to think of something comforting to say. Sadness made the bubbly Reia nervis. "Umm... don't worry Veera. I am sure we will find some place for you to bond a dragon." Reia said, patting the elf on the back. "Well... I'm goin' go into town. I'll be back later." Veera waved her hand, her way of saying have a good time. Reia bounced away from the forest where the two were staying the night. When Reia returned, she found Veera cooking, a good sign she was out of her depression. "I have some good news Veera!" The elf looked up from her task. "Oh? What?" Reia squirmed with pleasure at her secreat. "Don't make me beat it out of you!" "Alright, alright! Some guy in town told me that this place, called the Healing Den, is having a huge hatching! Over a hundred eggs! Theres no way you wouldn't be able to get an egg!" Veera jumped to her feet, her joy revived. "Well? Come on! What are we waiting for? The guy told me where this Healing Den is, so lets go!" The two gathered their packs, and set out for the Den. *** A week passed, and the two found themselves at the Healing Den. It had been hard to make it to the Den in a week, but they had done it. Veera stood at the doors to the Den, waiting for someone to answer her knock. The door creaked open, and a man looked out. "Hello. May I help you?" "Yes, I was wondering if I could apply to became a bonder here." Veera replied timidly. "Well, then you've come to the right place. Please come in." The man looked at Reia. "Are you bonding too?" Reia shook her head. "Then will you please wait in the first room?" Reia nodded, and the man lead them in. Reia took a seat in the first room, and settled down to wait. Veera followed the man, deeper into the Den. He lead the elf to a door, and left her. Timdly, she knocked on the door. "Enter." Veera opened the door, and steped in, closing it behind her. A young woman was sitting at the desk. "Here to become a bonder?" Veera nodded. "Good. Name and age." "Veera, 15." The woman scribbled it down in a book that sat before her. "You're all set. You will just need to be here when the hatching happens." Veera's jaw droped. "Thats it? I'm accepted?" The girl nodded. "Tha... thank you so much." The girl nodded again. Veera walked out of the room in a daze. Reia met her in the first room. "Well?" The girl demanded. "I'm in." The first thing the two did was to find a home. They passed through a forest on their way to the Den. The two backtracked, and began to explore the forest. Veera came running back to where the two girls said they would meet. Reia was there waiting. "I found the perfect place Reia! Hurry!" Reia was forced to run after the over excited elf, who had much longer legs than the human girl did. Veera led her to a clearing. The clearing was huge. The tall trees spralled overhead, their branches shading from the sun. There was more than enough room for a full grown dragon to fly out of the place. A small brook ran gently off to one side. Veera's dream was coming true... Several weeks later, the word went out: the eggs were hatching. All canidates to come to the Sands. Veera had never been on a Sands before, and had to go alone, without the support of Reia. She wandered around the edge of the mounds of eggs, trying to keep herself out of the dozens of people and dragons that had already bonded. Veera had finally found a small space where she could stand, where she was out of the way. She let her eyes wander over the hatchlings and eggs. She let her eyes rest on a dragon who strode from her egg like she owned the place. A bright pink red color, the dragoness stood on her hind legs and chirped loudly, waving her wings at the elf near her. Clear out! I need to find my friend! She has waited long enough! Veera looked up sharply at the sound of this dragon’s voice. She heard her quite clearly, though it looked like not a lot of others had. She’d been wandering so much, and had been disappointed before, so she was hesitant on the sands. No, really, Veera, it’s you I want. I am very glad that you did not bond before. I am not glad that you were sad, but ... “Oh, don’t worry Korkeath, it’s forgotten! You’ve got to meet my friend!” I’ve got to find something to eat first! Veera laughted like she had never before. Finally, she had been chosen. "Korkeath," she breathed. "What a beautiful name. For a beautiful dragoness." Finally... |
