Cindy, Mom and I were on the way back to our hotel after a concert at the Orange County fair. Cindy and I had just gotten in the van when we saw someone running up to us with a bass slung over his shoulders. It was Steve! He ran up to us and asked if he could have a ride. Cindy and I nodded yes, and he hopped in and set his bass down on the floor. He shut the door and we were off. Cindy and I started babbling about Al and the wonderful concert. Steve sat there, quietly getting freaked out at our fandom. ;) “The Al god smiled down upon me on Friday!” I said to Cindy, referring to my Nirvana cup. “Yeah, I got the cup on Wednesday!” she said back, grinning. (Even though in real life she didn’t even get into California until Thursday…) Steve joined the conversation with “I knew him back when he was funny, not famous.” Whatever that means. ;) We talked for a long time. Steve somehow ended up sitting in front of me on the floor, leaning his head back against my legs (which I had drawn up onto the seat, sitting cross-legged). Somehow we got around to talking about the Great Luke Ski, and how he performs. “I think when he performs, it’s just a tape that he sings to, whereas when you guys perform-“ Steve reached over for his bass. “Yeah, it’s us up there going-“ and he starts faking frantically playing his bass. It was hilarious. Then he started playing Dueling Banjos. As he played, somehow the van morphed into a bus full of people traveling heaven knows where. Someone towards the front yelled “Rock ‘n’ ROLL!” We can’t have that. “POLKA POWER!” “POLKARIFFIC!” The Dementites (located in the back of the bus) were having a marvelous time. Luke Ski (who was sitting in front of us) screamed out “POLKA TILL YOU PUKE!” We all started laughing hysterically. Steve (sitting in between Cindy and I) looked like he was very very tired of talking about Al, but Cindy and I just couldn’t shut up about the concerts and how cool Al was. We talked for about another hour and then I woke up. My Take On It Next Dream |
