I was at...guess. Go on. I bet you’ll never guess. Give up?…okay, I was at an Al concert. How clever you are. ;) It was the very first concert of the new tour. It was kind of a trial run of sorts-they weren’t playing the whole setlist, just certain songs. They played Fat and Bedrock Anthem. (Long concert, huh?) After the Anthem was over, and they were back in their street clothes, the guys all came out and sat on the stage. No one seemed to notice them except me. They were looking into the audience, waiting for someone to come talk to them. No one did. Finally, sweaty, hoarse and exhausted, I crept up to the stage. (How I got sweaty, hoarse and exhausted after only two songs is beyond me.) They all grinned at me as I approached them. I timidly waved at them, and they invited me to sit down with them and talk. We talked for about an hour about random stuff. (At one point, I told Steve he was being silly…even though he was just acting normally.) After we had sufficiently bonded, they invited me to come to their next concert for free. Well, of COURSE I said yes! Tomorrow dawned. I got up, got dressed, and booked it over to the venue. Al and the guys performed an awesome show. It was about half an hour longer than a normal concert would be, and during Yoda you could tell that all of them were exhausted. After the show, I went backstage to say hi and found a large crowd of fans waiting to see Al. I ‘excuse me’ and ‘pardon me’-d my way through the crowd until I got to the backstage door. There was no security in sight. Finally, some rather impatient people started trying to sneak through the door to see the guys. I ran up and leaped in front of the door. “Hey! What are you doing? We wanna go backstage!” “Well, they’re really, really tired. And besides, you don’t just barge in backstage! You wait for them to come see you, if they feel up to it!” They stuck their tongues out at me and left. My Take On It Next Dream |
