ABANDONED  HOUSE
The four fading pictures may take a few minutes to download.   Please be patient and read the poem while you wait.
Did fragrant odors fill the rooms
As happiness dispelled the glooms?
Were words of anger often spoke
Or was it blessed with kindly folk?
Did bright fires blaze in open hearth
As family gathered round in mirth?
Did loved pets scamper to and fro
As kith and kin watched children grow?
I gaze at you with sadness now
And hang my head in humbled bow.
I feel your sorrow...sense your loss
As memories to the winds are tossed.

What life once filled these lonely walls?
Did laughter echo in the halls?
Were tears of joy and sorrow shed?
Wee babies stalling time for bed?
Did sunrise stream through gleaming pane
Where gaping holes now fill with rain?
Outside where weeds and wild trees blow
Did once sweet peas and roses grow?
The house stands empty, cold, forlorn,
With sagging walls so tired and worn.
It seems so frail there...so alone...
Like aged soul whose heart has flown.
