Separation and divorce are commonplace today But far too often it is helpless children who must pay For wanton ways and wandering hearts Of parents seeking brand new starts. So often there are those who thought their love a lasting thing And then, too late, they realize there are sad songs to sing. With broken hearts and shattered minds They must go on new ways to find... To learn somehow to fill their empty days and lonely nights; To referee alone the children's squabbles, games and fights; Still living with the memory Of love, that somehow ceased to be. Oh yes! Sometimes a reconciliation comes about, But hidden under laughing eyes there still remains a doubt That someday lies will start again And there will once again be pain. What happened to the marriages that once were made for life? The tender vows that made a man and woman man and wife? If trust and faithfulness are wrong How can a nation still be strong? If family foundations crumble and are swept aside How can a country build a solid homeland filled with pride? If love has died for family How can one love a whole country? If only separation and divorce could somehow cease And we could bind together family ties and world-wide peace, If bonds of love weren't split in half Sad children once again could laugh.
