SPEAK KINDLY |
When you tell a child that he's no good Do you think he never hears? Don't you realize the echo of scathing words Will plague him through all his years? To his friends he may be a hero; Someone good, upstanding and kind, But the words of a critical parent Will be never far from his mind. The man he becomes is still the child With layers of years added on. Though the hurts of the past may seem distant, Cruel words are a part of the sum. No matter what he becomes in life, No matter how far he goes, There will always be self doubt in his mind. After all...A parent knows. So next time you ridicule or taunt Heed the impact of words you flay, For anger hurled at an innocent child Will come back to haunt you one day. Copyright by Barbara A. Duits July 17, 2000 |
