At sweet sixteen she fell in love With a man she was sure had been sent from above And despite the warnings of well-meaning friends One year later they married.
That wasn't the end.
A friend said to the glowing bride, "My dear, I am trying not to be snide, But you're young, And marriage is such a hard race. Ten years from now let me see your face."
Well... The years went by and children came, And problems galore were a part of the game. But through them all her love became stronger Till many years later she could wait no longer To write to the woman who long ago Had tried to tell her, "I told you so!"
For that teenage love continued to grow; Became a family...four children in tow. She still felt he was a gift from above And her face now glowed also with motherly love.
No... It hadn't always been easy As the years had come and gone, But the couple shared their problem times And the good times lingered on.
Now all these years later here they are, They still gaze at a twinkling star, They go for walks with hands entwined, Their love is a treasure, their thoughts are combined.
And so...
Dear Friend:
I write to you, And send along this photo too So you can see my happy face. I want you to know I'm ahead in the race!
The moral of my story is:
TRUE LOVE CAN CONQUER ALL!
And though at times we stumble And occasionally fall We can pick ourselves back up again And make another start,
For age has little power over matters of the heart.
