Dream A Little Dream ...

10/05/02 -  You took the road less travelled ... You always had the courage to stand alone.
You won’t let arthritis pain stop you now. Visit
Arthritis.com today. Now there’s a
creative advertising plot. I found it very funny. No, you don’t have to visit
Arthritis.com if you don’t want to. I didn’t. I haven’t got arthritis, yet. I like the road
less travelled part though. That’s actually from one of my favorite poems,
The
Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost
. However, I will admit that I can’t live up to the ad’s line about having the courage to stand alone. I think I would have to end that line with just having the courage to stand. I appear to still be very much in need of that little bit of attachment. I’ve failed Free Spirit 101.

I’ve found I can’t go without. I’ve gone ahead and done some shopping this
weekend. It’s probably been three or four months since I’ve hit Costco. There’s
way too much to tempt me there. I kept pretty much to the basics, string cheese,
pretzels, a giant box of corn dogs. I did allow a couple of treats ... for The Child,
a copy of The Lord of the Rings, one volume edition, the complete best-selling
classic ... for Me, a new old CD, The Very Best of The Doors. I managed to get
out of there spending just $130. Not bad. And, I guess when you visit Costco,
you might as well go all out and check out what’s happening at Walmart. I went
through the back door there, however. I only wanted to see what they had in the
nursery. Not much, I’m afraid. It figures I get the gardening bug when the season
is just about over. I did buy a gardenia plant. I love gardenias, the perfectly
shaped blooms, the beautiful fragrance. It’s season ends in October. But, I
should have a pretty well established plant when it’s new season begins next
year in May. Wow, that’s a little bit of future thinking. I did get some winter
plants, lettuce. My front yard garden will sport a healthy glow of edible foliage.

It’s been a wonderful weekend so far. I had a delightful surprise last night. And,
among other things, some inspiring conversation as well. I’m lucky to have a
friend that I can talk to about all those inner concerns of mine. It’s true, you just
never know what you might find when you aren’t looking.

Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less travelled by,
And that has made all the difference.
