Dream A Little Dream ...

10/16/02 -  Not all the Dead are dead ... Bob Weir is 55 today! Bob Weir, in case you didn’t know, is the guitarist for the Grateful Dead. I’ve had a crush on that man for 35
years! Happy Birthday Bob! I wish you many, happy, sunshines and day
dreams!!!

I’ve been a Dead Head since 1967 when I saw the Dead perform in San
Francisco. It was my first time seeing them, I got hooked. I saw them perform
several times, but I never got the chance to follow them around the country. The
Dead have never died for me. I’ve been carting around Dead tapes and CD’s all
my grown up life. I listen to their music faithfully. I never tire of it. Listening to
their recorded music is wonderful, but it just doesn’t do justice to being at a live
gig. It’s hardly the same. The aura ... well, those were the days! Fortunately for
me, I’ve been treated to a little bit of that aura right here in my ole Cow Town.
Every month or so The Pub hosts a Grateful Dead tribute band called
The Ded
Guise
. They hang up their tye dye and turn on the light show and ... well, they’d
make Gerry proud! They sound remarkably Dead. Each time I have seen them
has been magical. They really take me back. It’s impossible for me to sit through
their performances. In fact, the Pub really rocks on their nights. Lots of old Dead
Heads show up. One night, however,  this 21 year old girl was there and she
wasn’t familiar with the Dead. It didn’t take her long to get into it though. After
dancing for probably 45 minutes straight, she exclaimed: “That’s the longest
song I’ve ever heard.” Gees, I seem to remember some songs going on for
hours, 45 minutes is short. As she left that night she said, “So, am I going to
have to buy tye dye?” We had a convert!

So, to Bob Weir, and everyone else ... Keep on Trucking!!!
