Telstar was based on the SMP annual 3in1 1:25 scale kit. The parts I didn't want were cut away with a coping saw and Plastic-Wood (tm) was used for putty. AMT hadn't come out yet with their putty. The body edges are made of 20 AWG copper magnet wire. The wire was held up first with small amounts of putty and then gradually building up the contour of the body panels. The acetone in the Plastic Wood would warp the styrene if too much was applied all at once. I always used medium aluminum oxide paper. I would later mix a combination of bottled Pactra flat white and talcum powder for a final filler. There are two Caddie engines crammed into the original passenger compartment. The frame was built from a coat hanger and piano wire. The roof was flipped and used behind the bubble. The hood was also flipped and used for the belly pan. The bubble was from a Revell Part Pack with the rear cut away. The wires were bent around the bubble and then puttied in. The front headlight was made from a clear pocket comb. The rear light was made from a Pepsodent tooth brush. It was painted with AMT Gold base and AMT Kandy Red with Pactra clear coat.
Telstar's chassis shows the twin V8 set up. I believe those differentials are from a blower off the Green Hornet. The air cleaners were the four 13" hub caps from a Valiant. No cooling sytem, which is typical of my builds then.
