Welcome to the guild!

As a novice, your main aim is really going to be to be promoted up to an Apprentice in the Guild. Only a Aide to the Sylvan Oak, or the Sylvan Oak himself, can actually promote you, and they can be seen by typing HELP DRUIDS and looking at On-line aides to the Sylvan Oak.

However! I’m afraid it isn’t quite that simple to actually be promoted, as each person must first fulfil a set of requirements, and then go to an Aide in order request an interview for promotion. All the requirements can be seen on
HELP GUILDNOVICE DRUIDS, which is given here in a link.

Actually getting started can be quite a task, so here’s a few hopefully helpful pointers.

Between levels 5 (which you should get automatically from the Tour, which you had best have done as it gives you various things including a journal) and 21, you are known as a Newbie. You will get special access to a channel on which you can ask for advice from older players there, and also two special Guides, called Romeo and Juliet, who are there purely for Newbies. You can also ask for guild-specific advice on the Guild Novice Tell channel, through GNT <<message>>.
As a newbie, you are allowed in two special areas, called Minia and Delos, which are exclusively for you. There you can quest, usually involving GREETing NPC’s there, and listening to what they might want you to do, or kill things. As a neutral guild, we really have no qualms over what you kill, just make sure it’s not a Player, and isn’t going to kill >you<. If you have learned up to Hyena in Metamorphosis, you will have an attack called ‘claw’ which is best for killing NPC’s (known as ‘bashing’).

Some quests in Lodi include killing Wildcats and giving them to Blaan the hermit troll for gold, killing bats in a the Mine for Dorven, delivering a crate of ore to a person named Sethrin, returning lost items in the gnome village, and several others.

In Minia, you can kill pixies and give them to the Imp Lord for gold, give imps to the Pixie queen, give pygmies to the Kobald king, or Kobalds to the Pygmy cook, all in exchange for gold and experience. You can also get a net from Vellis there to catch butterflies for gold, read HELP BUTTERFLIES.

One main source of income is called ‘Ratting’, which involves going into cities and killing rats, which can be exchanged for gold. Read HELP RATS for more information again.

The items you need, such as tattoos, vials and herbs, for your interview, will all cost guild. There are several ways you can get them. First of all, and most expensive, you can get the tattoos from an NPC called Vinci, who lives in Delos. There’s a sign outside his shop. You can buy the filled vials, and herbs, directly from Rurin at the city markets. However, this is not the only way to do this. If you want to get it done cheaper, you may be able to find a person who will tattoo you if you provide the Inks. You can see what tattoo needs what inks by typing AB TATTOOS <<tattoo>>. Inks can be bought from the city markets, although we would like you to purchase at least >one< tattoo from Vinci, in order to know how to do it in case of emergency. You can buy empty vials from a city market, and see if either Seasone, who lives just South West of a well-known location known as North of Thera, can refill it, or a possible a person on the MARKET channel. The Guild cannot refill for Novices, as we want you to learn how to do it again if there is no-one available. Herbs can be gained in a similar manner.

If you have any problems with anyone, always bring it to the Guild, either an Elder or a Novice Aide, all of whom are visible on HELP DRUIDS. We’re here to help smooth your way along.
