Abused Persons Program (APP)
- In all probability you will be forced to go to a group counseling program administered by the APP.
- As a man and ordered by the court to go to the APP, you are considered guilty by the APP (actual court testimony from an APP counselor) and it does not matter if the judge sends your partner to the APP for counseling. If your partner is a woman, she is automatically considered the victim. The treatment program is different for women than men because of this presumption of guilt based on gender.
- The APP group counseling program is based upon the
Duluth Model which is a strictly gender bigoted approach to counseling since it denies the possibility of women committing domestic violence and excuses their violent behavior by blaming men.
The program runs for 6 months of weekly meetings.
Be prepared for anti-male bigotry, you will be shocked, and it will be from both male and female counselors.
The stereotypical abuser according to APP literature and videos is couched in terms that while no profile exists, but intimates he is a male, maybe married, goes to church and involved in the community and describes this person as a con artist. This flies completely in the face of the statistics which show only 5% of all Domestic Abuse is committed by married men. The biggest shocker is that women account for close to 50% of all domestic violence against women. Profiling as we have seen in the past with traffic stops of African Americans is nothing more than a euphemism for bigotry.
The stereotypical child abuser according to the APP is the same and again flies in the face of the statistical evidence showing that women actually account for 63.7% of child abuse cases.
Be aware that these counselors are in all probability themselves former victims of abuse and therefore you are seen as an abuser by them.
Be aware that the nature of bigotry is based on stereotypes and that any negative thing you say or do is just confirmation of the stereotype. Anything you do that is positive is dismissed as a moment of exception and not the norm for your group.
Studies have shown that 75 to 85% of all sexual abuse allegations by women against married men is found to be false. Don't bother telling the APP that, as far as they are concerned you are justifying yourself and are in denial.
Challenging the counselors does no good, in fact will result in a negative comment in your file and will be used against you in court. You will be said to "have a problem with women".
Any claims of innocence by you to the APP is considered denial.
Any claims of abuse by your accuser is considered truthful by the APP.
Any claims by you of abuse from your accuser is considered deception and denial by the APP.
These people are not at all concerned about your welfare, just your admission of guilt.
Do not admit anything to the APP, give only general answers.
Be aware that any answer to any question posed to you by the APP will be used in court against you. You are in an extremely hostile environment, silence is your only protection.
If you are a male victim of domestic violence, the APP will not offer the services to men as they do to women. If you are turned down or given lesser quality service on the basis of your gender seek legal counsel to file a discrimination suit. Even though it is called the VAWA (Violence Against Women Act), state and federal agencies are prohibited by law from discriminating on the basis of gender, however, there are many domestic violence advocates who refuse to treat men equally, this is due to their bigoted attitudes about domestic violence.
