The year was 2002. A couple of friends and I set out on a journey to the Black Hills of South Dakota on our motorcycles.  Over all, the trip was pleasant and memorable, although, on our first day out we ran into the worst storm of the millennium. We had to ride about 60 miles in a storm because there was nowhere to get off the highway. We saw many interesting places and met alot of interesting people.
We finally made it to a town and got out of the rain. Here we are in the upstairs lobby of our hotel in Springer, New Mexico. You can't tell, but we are cold and wet after our 60 mile long trip in the storm. The town had no resturants except the one in the hotel and it was closed at this late hour. All we had for dinner that night was potato chips and a candy bar. We hung wet clothes over the curtains, door knobs and anywhere else we could find. My bed had a spring poking through the mattress.
After three days on the road, we finally arrived in Sturgis, South Dakota. The local news paper said there was over a half a million people in the area. I think most of them were in Sturgis. Our first day in town we just walked around and checked out all the bikes and people.
Here we are at Mt. Rushmore. I never thought I'd get to see this monument. It was fasinating.  The man in the middle is Ed Martinez. He is 72 years old and still rides hard everyday. On the right is Charles Headworth. We stayed at his dad's place in Sundance, Wyoming while we were up there.
On the way  back we stopped in Laughlin, Navada, at the Golden Nugget Casino. These showgirls washed and shined my bike.
